The Little Mermaid (Fully Restored Special Edition) (Disney's Masterpiece) [VHS]ReviewsI have always stayed away from Disney princess movies, and a major reason is because I worried about being teased. So I finally decided to watch the Little Mermaid last year, and I enjoyed it immensely. Through the next week I had watched it four times when I started to realize this is one of my favorite movies. If you shy away from Disney movies, I would still recommend this one, while yet this is your typical Disney love story, it's still a great movie. I first noticed how amazing the animation was in the Little Mermaid, the animation was a big improvement over most of the movies Disney made in the 70's and 80's. The waves during the final scene are incredible for being animated and all those hand drawn bubbles in the underwater scenes must have taken forever to master. The Little Mermaid also has one of the best scores for a Disney movie and the credit goes to the talented Howard Ashman and Alan Menken. And while yet I was embarrassed to admit liking the Little Mermaid, isn't this what makes a movie great, fun characters, great animation, an incredible score and an enjoyable plot. So I will admit, while yet I may be too old to be watching a Disney princess movie I don't care. If you own the Little Mermaid on VHS from the "Walt Disney Masterpiece Collection", I would recommend keeping it. Jodi Benson (the voice of Ariel) introduces the trailers for the upcoming projects Walt Disney studios are working on and if you're a Little Mermaid completes' this tape is a nice item to keep. There also is a "Part of Your World" music video with Jodi Benson during the end credits, which I don't believe is included with the two disc special edition. I unfortunately love this movie now and I'm going to have to explain this to other people but it's a price I have to pay. A great movie should be intended for all audiences so I would recommend watching the Little Mermaid. Received this video and it was sealed as it stated in product description but it was obvious this wasn't a real Disney video. The usual label was missing sealing the outside of the case and the usual Disney info from the inside of the case wss missing, including the Disney code for Disney bonus materials. Also the disc artwork looked different from our previous Little Mermaid DVD that got stuck in a DVD player. The video also gets stuck in the very beginning every time we play the movie and then jumps during the Kiss the Girl scene and then the audio doesn't match the video. I'm very disappointed that this was represented as new, sealed DVD and it was a copy. I didn't return it however because it is my daughter's favorite movie right now and I can't find it anywhere else. This is the second Disney DVD I have ordered through Amazon that has obviously been a fake. We ordered this DVD so we could entertain our kids on a trip to Florida. My wife noticed that the packaging looked a little weird and faded but didn't think much about it until she opened the cover. She immediately noticed that the disk had small scratches everywhere and upon further inspection, the DVD's had very poor image quality on the labels and the word "Disk" was actually spelled "DESK"!! Not on one dvd but both of them!! WE loaded the DVD into our van DVD player and it wouldn't even play. Needless to say we where very upset the DVD was fake. I emailed the seller when we returned and she immediately made things right. She fully refunded us for the price of the DVD and shipping costs. I would do business with them again because I don't think they had any idea the DVD was fake. It was in clear packaging and they never opened it. My daughter called and my granddaughter loves her new movie. She watches it over and over. My daugther said the dvd is like new. Love it! Very nice experience all the way around. Delivered quickly. My grandson loved it. Average Rating:![]() |

PocahontasReviewsAfter watching the old vhs version of Pocahontas for the first time yesterday, I was somewhat ambivalent about the film. Reading the reviews, however, I realize that Pocahontas has done something remarkable, especially for a "cartoon": it has made Americans discuss serious aspects of our history with each other. I can remember the excitement when Pocahontas came out, that Disney had finally created a non-white heroine. I think we can still feel the ripples of that excitement today, as we talk about the difference between history and legend, who the Native Americans were and are, and the implications of these questions for people living today. As for historical accuracy, a person would have to be confused to go to a Disney movie thinking they would see "history" on the screen. Pocahontas is a legend, and Disney has, as usual, created its own version of that legend. On the surface, the movie is just a love story between two people of different cultures. Still, the conflict between Indians and white "settlers" depicted in this film gives some indication of the historical expectations of both groups, and of what happened as a result of that. We can't expect a Disney movie to deal with the genocide that followed. The character of Pocahontas that Disney created is so powerful that she overshadows everything else in the film. This is not a cute cardboard cutout, but a grown-up, majestic woman who should be an inspiration to everyone who watches the movie. The John Smith character is not quite the same quality, but he is an admirable nonetheless. Smith is eager to explore the New World and willing to forge a relationship with someone he previously considered a "savage," and even remains silent when the natives accuse him of killing one of their warriors. But he cannot equal Pocahontas's noble gesture of protecting Smith with her own body and telling her father that he will have to kill her if he's going to kill the white man. This is powerful stuff. Underlying the love story is the message of honoring the earth, beautifully captured in the song "Colors of the Wind." In Pocahontas, Disney's artists have made nature come alive, from the majestic rivers and mountains to Pocahontas's delightful friends Meeko and Flit. In color and sound, it is a gorgeous film. To sum up, everyone should see this beautiful movie. Far more than just entertaining you, it will make you think seriously about who we are as Americans, as well as how we treat the planet we all have to share. We love Disney movies and have most of them on DVD. Some of them can be pricey. This was a good buy. This movie was purchased from seller: moviesonsale1, and would not even play half way through. The seller of this product placed information in the evelope with the movie saying that if any negative feedback was received they would no longer be able to help you. They also gave a false phone number as a point of contact. I would never purchase anything from this seller again. My grand nieces were heartbroken when they had to give up Pocahontas to a rental store. So, I went to Amazon and ordered one for them along with II. They are so thilled. They watch them over and over. I had this copy in my hands within days after I ordered it. Thank you. I bought this for my 5 year old for Christmas and she loves this movie and the history that goes with it. Average Rating:![]() |

Breakfast Club [VHS]ReviewsThis is such a great movie! It went into the lives of five different teenagers and had great character development. Great acting! Great quotable lines! This is one of my favorite movies! If you are ur daddy's boy, this movie is not for you. But if you have your parents who hate your gut and you are not good enough for them no matter what you do, this is the movie for you. This is not an action flick. This is a talkie movie. So, if u r one of us, you know exactly what this movie is talking about. Otherwise, nothing will make sense. Picture and sound quality is very good for this old flick. Love this movie. 5 stars! Saw it on Netflix, although a bit long and overdramatic at times, it is the quintessential 80's movie and a must see. It still relates to High School and modern school cliques and how everyone goes with their own whether it be class, color or social.Just to see Molly she is beautiful, I love redheads,But I am A bigger Fan of Brunettes and found the quiet girl turned beautiful cliche even better than molly. Yes the movie is long, the dance sequence is looked aside by me but it's a good movie. I had to watch this movie in Psych class last semester. The entire time all I wanted to do was punch each of the kids in the face and tell them to stop acting like such whiny little brats. Bender, the "outcast-druggie" stereotype was possibly the most obnoxious character I've ever seen in a movie. He basically spent the entire time aggravating the other characters (and me at the same time) who were equally annoying in their reactions to him (they ALWAYS took the bait, ALWAYS responded like he wanted them to. Seriously, don't you learn in preschool to plug your ears and say "I'm not listening, I'm not listening"?). Then at the end they magically become friends, and 2 pairs of them start dating, which also got on my nerves, because it was SO unrealistic. To be completely honest, I usually hate movies like this. It's like Don McLean's song "American Pie", where basically he just mashes up a whole bunch of different themes and lets people interpret them to death. It kind of takes the fun out of the experience. Fortunately, director John Hughes (Mr. 80s himself!) doesn't allow his weighty material to get in the way of the film's true message. Basically, the plot of this film centers on a group of five high-schoolers dragging into the school on a Saturday to serve their detention "sentence". They come from all walks of life: The Rebel (Judd Nelson), The Jock (Emilio Estevez), The Princess (Molly Ringwald), The Troubled (Ally Sheedy) and The Nerd (Anthony Michael Hall). While being lorded over by Principal Richard Vernon (played brilliantly by Paul Gleason; he almost steals the show!), the self-dubbed "Breakfast Club" start to get to know each other a little bit. From there, the rest of the film is essentially two things: a series of hilarious sight/action gags to foil Mr. Vernon, and (more importantly) a treatise on the cliquish life of high school students. Led by the colorful commentary of Nelson's hard-edged character, each stereotype is carefully picked apart and laid bare for the world to see. Is "Ringwald" truly a good girl, or just fooling herself? Is "Hall" a dedicated student, or just playing the role to keep the few friendships he has? Plus, the instigator ("Nelson") turns out to be perhaps the most interesting character-study of them all! What keeps the movie from seeming too high-handy and sappy, though, is the wonderful directing of Hughes. Unlike, say, James Cameron's "Avatar", where the issues are preached to you in black-and-white terms with no room for disagreement, Hughes leaves it up to the viewer to decide who "The Breakfast Club" members really are. You can view them as Mr. Vernon does, or have the opportunity to delve in deeper if you so choose. Thus, I have no problems recommending this film to any and all fans of movies that will really make you think. The ending may be too cheesy (but probably needed to satisfy the teen audience), but along the way it packs quite an intellectual and emotional punch, with a hefty dose of comedy thrown in as well. The Dark Knight (+ BD Live) [Blu-ray]ReviewsYes, I'm sure you've heard about Ledger's outstanding performance as the Joker - but it's not just a "say-nothing-ill-of-the-dead" review. It's a truly original, as well as faithful performance. Jack Nicholson didn't really perform the genius of the Joker as much as his craziness; it was more like Nicholson doing macabre vaudeville. It wasn't the real Joker. This is the real Joker through and through, but re-envisioned with a dose of realism. And by saying this, I dare you to find Heath Ledger anywhere in that mad man on the silver screen. The script is sharp, delves into Batman's psyche better than any cinematic endeavor to date (except for one game: Batman: Arkham Asylum. This is just the current level of performance gifted to director Nolan. The entire cast is the strongest of any recent movie I've seen, but I will say there's one moment where Bale's raspy voice as the Dark Knight is kind of awkward. No movie's perfect, but this one may well inspire a three-time viewing. The movie is great! but the features sucks! If you wanna buy cause of the movie go for it, but if you are a feature fun, then don't waste your $$$, we should wait till they come out with a better version and show more on how the made the movie etc. Heath Ledger gives an epic performance. Moves quickly, drama and suspense are well done - you're never bored. Nice camera work, good acting - as usual Zimmer provides a great score. All around a great movie. I liked the first one and thought the Joker was way too Psychotic and Batman was always 3 steps behind him and got his ASS Kicked! LOSER! i bought this for a friend for christmas and she was happy. This is one of the best batman movies i have ever seen the acting is great and the plot is amazing. I would recommend buying this movie. Average Rating:![]() |

From the moment that Prince Eric's ship emerged from the fog in the opening credits it was apparent that Disney had somehow, suddenly recaptured that "magic" that had been dormant for thirty years. In the tale of a headstrong young mermaid who yearns to "spend a day, warm on the sand," Ariel trades her voice to Ursula, the Sea Witch (classically voiced by Pat Carroll), for a pair of legs... |

Howl's Moving CastleReviewsThis is different from Miyazaki's other movies. Then again, aren't all of his movies original treasures? This is as magical as Spirited Away and more romantic than any of his other films. Howl's Moving Castle is adventurous and sweet and beautiful to watch. This product is of highest quality. The story is captivating and the graphics are amazing. A definite watch !!!! This is a film of rare beauty. When I've had a bad day at work, or the children are berserk I watch this and all of my cares melt away.. It also restores my faith in humanity.......which needs restoring on a daily basis!! I love it! I am delighted to have my own copy of this movie. It's a fantastic piece of art and all of my friends, whom I have shared it with, agree. This copy of Howl's Moving Castle comes with a bunch of bonus features like: French, Japanese, and English(Of course) language options; behind the mic interviews with all of the cast, and many more. Disc one is the best disc out of the two included. The second disc only contains the movie in sketch form, but if you're interested in the art, you'll love it! It took about 3-4 days for it to reach my doorstep, but I was really happy when I saw it! It's hard to find Miyazaki's films, especially good copies of them. I suggest you get this movie while you can. You're children or future children will thank you when they're able to share this fantasy with you! This movie is like no other, totally a must see and a must own. Great for adults and youth Average Rating:![]() |

Dance Praise 2 -the ReMix: Dance Pad Included! (Digital Praise)ReviewsBought this for my husband, lots of fun, easy to use! Occasionally it will replay the same song, but other than that, it is definitely a good buy and a useful item for those wanting to Praise the Lord and get in shape! It turned out to be great fun for the whole family. great for a group of friends. The music is excellent, sticks in your head. We all got better as the evening progressed. Best part is that I don't need to worry what "message" my kids are getting as they are "working out". For all of the adults, we laugh at one another and kept going. Ordered a couple more to have on hand for birthday gifts.....excellent value for the money. Gave it to my niece and nephew for Xmas....I was the favorite Aunt...especially when I danced with them. My daughter has tried to program and use this product but it is not functioning properly. Because she is a student she has only had time to try it out a few times. The arrows disappear on the screen or freeze. one of the sensors on the mat is not in the right place so it is hard to get the list of songs to stop where we want it to stop and play. She has tried to re load the program with no success. The problems remain. We think the product is defective but because of limited amount of time from the time product was received and tried out we have run out of time on the 30 day warranty for returns. The on-line testing site for the product says it is working when we can clearly see it is not. The computer being used is brand new since November so it is not the computer. Wow! This product is exactly what we wanted. My 16 year old twin girls love it! We have two dance pads so they play at the same time. We also have two expansion packs and they love having the large variety of music. It is lots of fun and works perfect! I would recommend this product for any age. Dance Praise 2 -the ReMix It's Christian Music, but it's just like the stuff you here on the radio (in fact a couple songs are played on mainstream Top 40 radio). It is soooo easy to hook up & get started. I was up in running in like 2 mins! It was fun & I could tell I was working my legs and you can get your heart rate up too! Different levels, so you can start out easy if you'd like. Average Rating:![]() |

Sister for SaleReviewsMy six year old really liked this book a lot and as always these books present a great message without being "preachy". Definitely recommend. Ahh, sibling rivalry! The little boy in this story (about ten years old) has asked God to help him sell his innocently energetic, pig-tailed, little sister, Ally Grace. He tells how annoying and mean she can be, then assures others she will be nice to them. He's ready to bargain with anyone interested in buying her. As he mentions all of the bad things Ally Grace is capable of, he begins to wonder what it would be like not having her around. After some thought, he begins to see the good she is capable of and changes his mind. God is mentioned twice in this book. Once, in the beginning, and then at the end. At first, it appears the young boy is asking God for help. Later, it's clear he is asking God to help him do a terrible thing. The little boy doesn't turn to God for good. I think the author should have taken the opportunity to create a good relationship between God and the little boy. Maybe there should have been an adult in the picture helping the older brother understand he needs to ask God to help him cope with his sister. It's cute, comical, and even made me laugh, but I would not consider it to be a children's Christian book. This is a really great book! I bought this book for my son when he was having a hard time loving his sister. It went over really well and he loves this book! Great fun for me to share with my grandchildren as well as my own sister and brother. For Christmas I put old pictures of my brother, sister and I in a book for each of them. I then responded to the thoughts on each page with little quips of my own, remembering our own childhood memories. I put a brother or sister poem on the back inside cover and because we were all lucky enough to share the Christmas holiday with each other, I put one in each of their stockings for Christmas morning. What a special memory for all of us about being sisters and brothers growing up and what a special way to teach my grandchildren about the value of having a sibling. Humor is a grand way to get a message across! This book is a fun way to be able to address the issue of sibling rivalry. Michelle writes in a way that makes it enjoyable to read with your children. You will definitely laugh when you read how a big brother comes up with a creative way to get rid of his pesky little sister. This would make a great gift for an older sibling when a new baby arrives! Average Rating:![]() |

Average Rating:![]() |

WOW Hits 2010ReviewsGreetings, I ordered this CD because it had so many songs on it that I had noted I would like to download in the future (I usually download one song at a time; on a tight budget). When I saw that all of the songs I wanted were on this CD, I had to buy the entire collection. I've copied both CD's to my MP3 player and am never without it. I've integrated the songs into various existing playlists (from my at the gym higher energy playlist to my more quiet worship playlist) and I've also copied each disk itself onto my player as a new playlist. Every song is terrific. No matter where I access the songs they fill my heart with joy and I access them often. Awesome artists; awesome bands. I am very happy with this purchase and would recommend this CD to anyone who loves contemporary Christian music. Wow is always a great CD and this was no different. The service I received was great and the music is the same. Thank you These are great songs, but I was disappointed that one of the CD's wouldn't play in my computer due to a defect. It would play in a CD player. The flaw was visible. HAPPY WITH THE MUSIC. IT ARRIVED QUICK, IN NEW CONDIDATION .HAPPY THANK YOU I do not own this album yet because I forgot it came out already, but I own every other year of these albums and they are some of my favorite albums. I listen to them all the time and through the years the artists on these albums have become favorites. These albums are how I found "Casting Crowns" my all time favorite Christian band ever. Baby Einstein: Lullaby ClassicsReviewsGreat music -- our twins and we love it. I can see how it may not work as a lullaby for some though, since some of the music is pretty animated. Nevertheless we include the whole album on our set list for lullaby music and it works great -- its a nice addition to our other lullaby music. I was excited to purchase this cd because my son really likes the BE videos. I was quite disappointed when I put it on the first evening I brought it home. The songs are fast tempo and very "chimey" sounding. I found myself not at all relaxed and found that he actually got wound up by the cd. This might be fun to play around the house but is not really soothing for us. I'll stick to the piano classics cd we've been using as he drifts right off to that. When my son was 6 weeks old we tried everything to help him sleep. My favorite book suggested playing a cd EVERYTIME he went to sleep. We tried several different ones from a women singing lullabies (Husband said get rid of it) to the rainforest nature sounds. This is the one we stuck with. MY son is now 4 1/2 and still he listens to the cd. We just had a baby girl. I play this now for her and she sleeps great. I highly recommend. I have used this CD with both of my kids in helping them go to sleep and I love it. It's great, mellow music and it helps them go to sleep. I highly recommend this CD to anyone looking for some peaceful classical music. This Cd is wonderful. we put it on for baby to sleep with very relaxing for her. Average Rating:![]() |

DuetsReviewsblues and gospel unite once again! It doensn't get any better than this! I enjoy listening to this CD over and over again. It does not get old ;-) If The Blind Boys of Alabama ever needed commendation, which they don't, Duets provides it by being a showcase for the wide variety of artists with whom they have collaborated. Also telling are the many songs on this release that come from Grammy-nominated or Grammy-winning albums. Appropriately, the CD opens with "Take My Hand" by Ben Harper from the Grammy-winning There Will Be a Light (2004). It was through that award that The Blind Boys came to my attention and perhaps the attention of many others. What is it about The Blind Boys that causes so many artists to want them on their albums? Being in the music business, it must have something to do with their sound, which for me hearkens to the Negro spirituals sung by world-weary voices that knew hardship. It's an authentic gospel sound that enhances songs that resonate with The Blind Boys. Two of the most powerful tracks are back to back blues excursions: "I Had Trouble," by Charlie Musselwhite and "When the Spell is Broken," by Bonnie Raitt. The latter song features The Blind Boys on a great-sounding refrain toward the end: "Can't cry if you don't know how." Their voices fit well with the blues, but among the wide range of styles that you find are country, black gospel, Americana, reggae and something that sounds a little alternative. In regards to the latter, I'm thinking of "Jesus" by Lou Reed, one of three previously unreleased recordings. I found this track mesmerizing from the first time that I heard it. Sparse instrumentation and short, simple lyrics given with a vulnerable delivery perfectly complement this song of brokenness. It's a plea from one who has fallen from grace and now seeks to find their place. This song also caught the attention of the legendary Glen Campbell, who recorded it on Meet Glen Campbell. On the contemplative and intriguing side is "Secular Praise," by Timothy B. Schmidt, a member of the Eagles. As he reminisces about his life he adds, "Don't go to church but I feel the weight." Could this be the weight of glory that people feel when the catch sight of an Almighty God? It's not clear who he is referring to when he sings, "Still I hope to shake the hand of fate before I die." Another interesting collaboration with someone not as well known is Susan Tedeschi on "Magnificent Sanctuary Band," a gospel song produced by the well-respected Joe Henry, who produces another song on this recording, "None of Us Are Free," by Solomon Burke. Tedeschi is known as a blues guitarist and the wife of Derek Trucks, one of two guitarists for The Allman Brothers Band. I can't help thinking that The Blind Boys are an obvious bridge between the gospel and the world of music. Their lives and voices are an influence for good. This CD serves as a fascinating introduction to their music, which thankfully has intersected mainstream music in such a rewarding way. I love the BBs of Alabama and have for years. Time and age has changed the membership of the group since it was formed in 1939 but they always sing as a cohesive unit - and individual members names are rarely listed on their albums. I have many of their CDS (and DVDs) but most of the tracks - though all but four are previously issued - are new to me. Why? Because the Executive Producers Charles Driebe and Chris Goldsmith took these tracks from albums which featured the Boys as "guests". There's a diverse group from Country's Randy Travis to kids' music icon Dane Zanes. So you don't need to go buy whole albums just to hear the Boys do their thing. Add to this the four "new to CD" tracks with Toots of the Maytals, blues master John Hammond and - least likely partner of all, Lou Reed! The Bonnie Raitt (issued) track comes from 1994 but the other are all post 2001. The sound is "heavenly" (pun intended here) and the sequencing just perfect. If the "name acts" included here introduced new folks to the Blind Boys recordings, that'll just be the icing on the cake! Steve Ramm "Anything Phonographic" The Blind Boys of Alabama formed as a quartet in 1939 at what was then called the Alabama School for the Negro Deaf & Blind. All four members - three primary vocalists and a drummer - were blind. Of the four founders, two have passed, one has retired, and Clarence Fountain continues to tour with the group as his health allows. Like the Staple Singers, the Blind Boys of Alabama sing traditional material and bring their gospel harmonies to pop music. This collection pulls together fourteen collaborations in which the group backs up or sings alongside folk, rock, pop, country, blues, soul and reggae artists. All but four of these tracks were previously released, but anthologizing them in a single place provides an amplified view of how the group's gospel meshes into a variety of musical contexts, and how effortlessly the group pulls other artists into their embrace. Ben Harper's soulful singing is a natural fit, as are Toots Hibbert's and Solomon Burke's. Randy Travis' old-timey religion gives the group a jaunty rhythm, and the twangy guitar, solid backbeat and spoken blues of Charlie Musselwhite's "I Had Trouble" is backed with Jordanaires-styled harmonies. The acoustic "Welcome Table" provides Dan Zanes and the group a terrific arena for vocal interplay, even dropping in an a cappella verse. The spare blues of John Hammond's "One Kind of Favor" finds the group harmonizing in a low hum, and the swing stylings of Asleep at the Wheel's "The Devil Ain't Lazy" offer a playful way to put across the song's message. Perhaps most surprising is the pairing with Lou Reed on the Velvet Underground's "Jesus." Here the group's harmonies shed the light of salvation upon Reed's spent and broken monotone. Timothy B. Schmit's "Secular Praise" is the album's newest track, and the cuts by Toots Hibbert, Lou Reed and John Hammond are each previously unreleased. All four are fine additions to the material that was drawn from ten different original artist's albums. The group's live and recorded work has received numerous accolades over the years, including film and TV placements and five Grammy awards, but their greatest compliments may just be these invitations to make music with their peers. [©2009 hyperbolium dot com] This delightful assemblage of musicians completely surprised me. The powerfully evocative Duets CD is a rewarding mixture of superb contemporary musical artists. It is really hard to pick a favorite from the diverse sampling of songs on Duets: "Jesus" with Lou Reed and "Perfect Peace" with Toots Hibbert are truly exceptional pairings. The Blind Boys continue to amaze me with their talent and creativity on this new compilation. Average Rating:![]() |

The 33 Doctors Of The ChurchReviewsWhile a bit intimidating in its heft, the intimidation stops there. This is one of the best-written books I have ever read about some of the greatest (and most humble) human beings to walk this earth and serve our Lord. It is accessible, funny, moving, fascinating and inspirational, enough so to get me to get many of the separate works by the doctors and devour them. This book will show you many ways to grow closer to God and serve Him better. I can't recommend it more highly for what should be the most important priority in your life. This is such an interesting book! It is very accesible - not too heady and scholarly to enjoy. Fr. Rengers tells the personal story of each of the beloved doctors of the Church. These are fascinating histories that include both the strengths and the weaknesses of each Saint. Fr. also gives a great synopsis of the impact, both immediate and long term, that each Doctor had on the Faith and Church. It is rare to find such an academically outstanding book that is also just a down right fascinating read. This book will strengthen your faith, increase your understanding of Catholic doctrine and Church history, and will keep you amused for hours! Great in-depth stories of the Church's greatest figures! Each chapter is almost a book in itself! A must-have for those serious about Catholic history, theology and Tradition!! Average Rating:![]() |

Apples to Apples Bible EditionReviewsJust as in regular Apples to Apples, it seems like the best (funniest) card pairings are always a little on the scandalous, outrageous, or ridiculous side. So here - except that "maybe a little blasphemous" is added to the mix. So - just keep that in mind. And sometimes the winning card isn't really blasphemous, but perhaps not what you were expecting from "Bible Apples to Apples". Example: The winning card for the adjective "large" was "The Ten Virgins". As a youth minister, I bought this game to play with the youth & adults of my Lutheran congregation. I enjoy games that create conversation, and this will definitely do that. Especially when one of your youth pairs the adjective "delicious" up with "10 virgins". There have been some genuinely good match-ups that I was excited to see the kids make, plus each noun card has a bible reference or fact about the subject. I think I'd be fine having an original copy of Apples to Apples on hand instead of this version, but it's a fun way to teach the bible and that's ma' job! Very similar to the regular edition game. The only major difference is that all the Hollywood type famous people have been replaced with Biblical characters or famous Christians. I honestly don't understand why the authors of this game chose some of the adjectives they did. I mean, what card are you supposed to play for "Spicy"? I guess maybe if you happened to be holding "Myrrh" or the Song of Solomon, it might be appropriate and funny, but it just so happened the only card I had in my hand was the Blessed Mother Mary herself, and my aunt Gladys did not find that at all amusing. But it gets even worse: I swear that if it wasn't for this game, I never would have made the mental connection between the Virgin Mother and spiciness. Not in a million years. But now, thanks to Apples to Apples, I can't think anything else. I see a pieta at the Met and the first thought in my head isn't "serene masterpiece" but "mmmm . . . spicy." So if St. Peter is anywhere near as harsh a judge as my darling aunt Gladys, I fully expect that thanks to this game I just might find myself in some Sartrean vision of hell that ironically consists of an unending game of Apples to Apples Bible Edition. To escape this fate, I'm considering converting to the Yiddish Edition. We ordered this as a Christmas gift for my husband's parents. We enjoy the regular version, but they'd prefer the Bible version. It is fun & we enjoy playing. Average Rating:![]() |
