Classic Alcohol Burner Lamp - 3 Position Canister - Adjustable FlameReviewsI needed something that gave me more heat and flame for the larger items I was working on and it did all that. The alcohol burner lamp was exactly as described and arrived very quickly in good order. For those who need a alcohol burner lamp for crafts or, as in my case, bassoon reed making, this is the one to get! Average Rating:![]() |

Brain Fitness 2: Sight & SoundReviewsMy husband and I have just begun to use Brain Fitness 2: Sight & Sound. We're both enjoying it. It's interesting to use and I have great hope it will help me keep the level of 'fitness' I now enjoy and perhaps improve it as I age. I'll get back to you with further updates. I caught part of this show on TV and then went out to purchase it. The program goes into the causes and effects of sight and sound in relationship to age and other factors. I am using it in my art class to tell students how they see and how they can train their eyes and brain to work together to really see the world as it is vs. how our brain tells it is. I contacted the sellers with my new address to send it to once the package was returned to them. I went back to the old address for a week and nothing came. I asked some else to check the following week but to no adval. I contacted the seller to let them be aware of the change in address if returned, I heard nothing from them. This is not the service from your sub-contators I am use to. I hope you can straighten them out. Dan Layton Average Rating:![]() |

The Best of Beakman's WorldReviewsThis is a great DVD for any age. Beakman makes learning fun. I wish the earlier episodes were included. Like the one that explains where ear wax comes from . . .truly gross!! My husband and I used to love watching Beakman's world on Saturday mornings (as well as Parker Lewis Can't Lose), so this show obviously has a broad base. It is irreverant, and shows a more "urban" feel than Bill Nye The Science Guy but they are both cut from the same cloth. Quick cut edits, weird sound effects, snappy dialog, fun science. Toddlers wouldn't like or appreciate this or Bill Nye, but my kids (9.5, 8 and 5) all love both, and after watching this DVD, immediately ran outside to try out some of the experiments he showed them. Gotta love that! It is slightly dated (I think they talk about records or cassette tapes in the start of the DVD), but the science still holds, and there's nothing quite like Beakman and his friends! [5 stars for the program, 4 for the DVD, sight unseen, because they tell me there isn't enough Josie] I wasn't going to review this item, as I felt there was no need. I only came here to buy this item for my age 6 son, and scanned the reviews in hope that one might contain information on which episodes/excerpts were included in this video. But I stumbled on a review that was just WRONG, and saw that others had marked it as helpful, and then thought of the children who would be deprived of this opportunity to learn AND have fun which is NOT AVAILABLE ANYWHERE ELSE. I COULD NOT leave this alone. While I replied to the review, THIS WAS NOT ENOUGH. A shortened version of my reply: [that other review]"...two puppet penguins...when one stated that he was "younger and sexier" than the other, I began to worry." And it goes on. Whoever put this DVD together obviously made a major error, in that this joke was now made out-of-context in editing. Bearing no real sexual content whatsoever, it's a biological/genetics joke: said penguins are *twins*. As such, any reference to difference in age or physical appeal is essentially moot. Therein lies the joke. My sister was 3 when she heard this joke, and she got it immediately. She recently credited this show with getting A's in COLLEGE science classes, having had no real immersion in science in between. My grandmother, wife of a minister, and mother of 3 others, was also tickled pink when she heard this joke. These penguins typically represented "what-not-to-do", much like "Mr. Lundt" from Veggie Tales, and all viewers come away with the impression to avoid their behavior and actions, now and always. ""Beakman" was obnoxious..." ...[blink, blink].... I truly believe that anyone who reads this line should go look up that word. "Oscar the Grouch" and countless other children's characters ARE obnoxious, even sometimes when they're put forth as "the good guy". Nye is obnoxious as often as not. "Beakman" more than anything else was "put-upon", trying to teach both the viewers and the other characters fun things about science, but fighting an uphill battle all the way. The "talking hands" are used on purpose to direct the eye and to capture and keep the attention of viewers under age 10. Dozens of studies show that this also helps children retain what they've just heard--often for the rest of their lives. It's especially helpful for children *and adults* with everything from A.D.D. to dyslexia to focal seizures. It's how many oral-tradition cultures kept their histories alive and INTACT for milennia. The "tattooed mouse" is a favorite of other reviewers, and made the top 20 in favorite children's characters numerous times and in widely varied places. The actress who portrays the much-missed Josie (who made the top TEN above) continues to give award-winning performances in vastly differing genres, such as being singled out for excellence in both good and bad reviews of The Brady Bunch Movie. Millions worldwide agree that: the original Sesame Street was the best overall childrens' educational show ever the Letter People was the best preschool childrens' educational show for learning to read, ever the Electric Company was the best age 6+ childrens' educational show, for learning to read and for gaining command of English, ever Math Net was the best childrens' educational show, for learning the basics and cultivating interest in math, ever THIS SHOW was the best childrens' educational show, for learning the basics and cultivating interest in science, ever I loathe half the children's programs currently running. My family and I have only agreed on 7 things EVER; this show was one of them. If I could afford it, I would buy a few hundred copies of this DVD to give to all I know with children and to local schools and children's centers and more. Naturally I second the motion made by reviewer "Dakota" (and others) to press the issue and get the entire series out on DVD. I was in my teens and had been in advanced science classes from 1st grade on, and still found this program to be helpful, informative, and entertaining enough to write all that I have here (and could easily add more) and to seek out this program for my son. Regardless of where you purchase "Beakman" DVD's or how much you pay for them, GET THEM if you have children of any age at home. This guy is the best thing to get preteens and teens a like, to enjoy the world of science. easy experiments with house hold items. Great for pearant to spend time with their kids on those day your stuck in the house and you keep hearing "I'm Bored!" my two year old enjoys them also. I highly recomend this DVD and anything else that is Beakman's world!!! I have always liked Beakmans World and when I saw this DVD I got it.I loved it.I wish it was longer though,or better yet, come out with the entire show on DVD. Average Rating:![]() |

The Birds, the Bees and Me: For BoysReviewsI was looking for a dvd that focused on the changes of puberty in greater detail. I thought there would be details about hormones and physical changes with minimal mention of conception and sexual intercourse. I had planned to use this in a school setting but with the cartoon representation of intercourse, I cannot use it. I considered using the dvd up to that point but there wasn't enough information about the changes of puberty to warrant the $20 price tag. This is a great product with quick, concise information for 11-13 yr. olds. Kids need to know accurate information from their parents, so it can open the door for questions. My boys did not want to know too much, just a few facts. Sometimes with a talk, kids hear blah, blah, blah. This video is enough information, not too much detail. Great tool for those parents that feel uncomfortable talking about sex.My son was actually ready to ask me questions!! This was a very informative, educational movie. It was age appropriate and allowed my step son to ask questions during and after the movie. I think this is great!! Cute animations as well. I got this tape for my 13 year old son and it was very helpful. It explained everything and open the door for questions to be asked. I think it is a good ice breaker for women who are trying to explain the birds and the bees to a son. Average Rating:![]() |

See How They Grow: Pond Animals [VHS]ReviewsThe video "Pond Animals" is a fun, educational, easy-to-watch video for kids of all ages. I have used it as a classroom resource for teaching life cycle units with 2nd and 3rd graders as well as playing it over and over for my 3-year-old son. The video is broken into 4 animal segments for ducks, frogs, salamanders and dragonfly's. The animals are shown in semi-realistic habitats interacting with each other and other types of animals. Each segment is proceeded and ended with a brief animated sequence depicting the animal's life cycle stages. The overall video quality is very good and uses great close up shots of eggs, larvae and adult animals. A super teaching tool for both parents and educators! Average Rating:![]() |

Folligen Solution Therapy SprayReviewsHair loss has too parts, DHT accumulation and inflammation. This spray is soothing and proven by science to take care of the later problem. I've used this for 5 weeks now and it hasn't worked for me, not even a little. I also didn't like that there were no instructions/directions for use so it's difficult knowing if you're using the right amount or applying it correctly (maybe that's why it hasn't worked for me?). The smell is strange, but it's the kind of smell that if it worked, you wouldn't really be bothered. Was hoping for a better result than what I got for the money. I bought this product at the suggestion of the girl at the spa who waxes my eyebrows, My eyebrows have become scanty looking and need alot of filling in , after a month of applying folligen with a q tip to my eyebrows, I am noticing a difference, I also spray it in my hair after showering and comb through, I even feel my hair is thicker and shinier I'm a woman in my mid-30s experiencing genetically-linked thinning hair. For the past two years especially, my hair had been so brittle that running my fingers through it would break strands, and my scalp was easily visible. I had seriously been considering just shaving my head and being done with it! I had already been using Minoxidil (5% solution) alone for several years, with minimal results. I have been using Folligen spray for 2 months now (once a day) in addition to Minoxidil, and I have noticed a marked improvement in my hair's health. It is much less brittle than it used to be, much less frizzy, and feels noticeably thicker. I have also noticed that I shed much less hair when I take a shower. A word of caution: If you are blonde, this product will tinge your hair and scalp slightly green. I have dark hair, and so it's not so much of an issue for me. Also, this product does have a distinct coppery odor when you first apply it that does go away once it's dry. One bottle, if used once a day, seems to last about 2 months. All in all, this product has definitely been worth it for me! I originally tried this spray as a hair-regrowth solution. It worked moderately well (I could definitely see an improvement), but I decided it was too messy to use on a regular basis and what hair I did have left wasn't worth the effort. I did discover that it is very effective at reducing scars for small- to medium-sized wounds. I would clean the wound with some alcohol, dab some neosporin (or equivalent), spray the padded part of a band-aid with the Folligen, and then stick on the band-aid. It helped me get rid of a really nasty burn scar from the oven and now I use it regularly for any minor wounds. I can definitely recommend this for anyone who is in the early stages of hair loss or anyone who wants to help reduce scarring in general. Average Rating:![]() |

Insect Lore Live Butterfly GardenReviewsI got this for my then 5 year old daughter. She took it into school as her "show and tell" each week and the kids got to witness a couple of the butterflies hatch. She's never been so excited about a present in her life. She wants another kit for her birthday this year. We'll definitely be doing this again. Great experience and hands on learning. i bought this for my 9 yr old niece for her birthday. She was so thrilled with it. Very educational and entertaining! I bought this 3 or 4 years ago for my son. Sent away for the caterpillars and had two delighted kids watching the whole process happen. Each summer this has also been our lightening bug container each night in June and July. We've caught local caterpillars and had varying degrees of success having them turn to butterflies or moths. My son's preschool and kindergarten class have also borrowed it for a month at a time when they were doing butterfly projects. So it wore out. Hence we are happily buying another one and will start over with sending away for caterpillars this spring and I'm sure it will house many more creepy crawlies to come. It is easy to store (folds down and velcro holds together). The zipper is easy to use (both my son and daughter could manage it at 3 1/2. It is way more humane than the plastic bug holders with a magnifying glass because air circulates and temperature is less likely to get hot. We highly recommend. I just opened this up to see that you have to pay extra $$ for the shipping and handling o the butterflies. Sorry, but this should be included in the price. I already paid for this and should not have to pay more! I am looking forward to doing this with my daughterm but disappointed that I have to shell out more money to get what I already should have purchased. This is a great educational toy! Bought it for my niece who loves butterflies and am thrilled with it! Average Rating:![]() |

Learning Resources Prepared Slides Combination Set, 48 SpecimensReviewsI ordered this for a seven-year old boy who already owns a toy microscope and wants more slides "so that he can be a better scientist." He seemed entirely satisfied. I am hesitant to review in detail because I haven't viewed the slides personally. I don't believe that the quality of his microscope is very good (was purchased by someone else for less than $20) so it speaks well to the slides if he is able to use them at all! The slides arrived promptly in the busy holiday season. They were clearly marked and organized, and after a long evening of searching seemed like a very good choice. Great beginning slide set. I bought it for my middle schooler. The storage case for the slides is just the box they come in but there are slits to hold the slides so they aren't stacked on top of each other. They are clearly labeled. We have had fun looking at them with my son's new microscope. Nice buy for the $$. Is a good slice, but just for beginners, as soon you have you micro you will be start experimenting with another thing, so you will uses a short time. Maybe is a better idea buy a book for learn to prepare your own slice. This is just my opinion I was pleasantly surprised with the specimen especially after reading some of the reviews. The specimen are made well, were not dusty, boxed well and labeled nicely. I found that some people did not care for some of the slides. I thought all of them were incredible!! All the hair slides do look different, not all the same as someone stated in their review. If you have a duo-scope microscope (I have a My First Lab Duo-Scope - Love it!) that allows you to view the slides with light from above and light from below you will see major differences in detail. If you look at the slides with the light from below, some look a bit boring. But, if you use the light from above the slides the detail is amazing. My husband and I checked out all the slides before the kids and we were amazed! Even the hair samples looked great. We especially loved the ant slide, what detail!!! I think that the differences in what other reviewers saw have to do with the microscope being used. The 48 specimens come in two boxes of 6 slides each which are 6 different categories. Each slide contains 4 specimens. The slides for the first box are as follows: 1)Pollen & Spore - Pollen of lily, Sunflower pollen, Bottle brush spore, Fern spore 2)Tiny Creature - Plant louse, Fruit fly, Shrimp Egg, Silk worm larva (moth) 3)Textile Fibers - Hemp fiber, Silk stuff, Cotton fiber, Bemberg 4)Insects - Leg of butterfly, Wing of butterfly, Wing of locust, Leg of honey bee 5)Plants - Pine Wood, Camellia leaf section, Bamboo shoot, Sponge gourd 6)Animals - Goldfish scale, Hare hair, Camel hair, Feather fowl point The slides for the second box are as follows: 1)Pollen & Spore - Tulip pollen, Leaf spore, Pine tree pollen, Orange pollen 2)Tiny Creature - Common red sponge, Angora rabbit hair, Ant, Mouse fur 3)Textile Fibers - Panya, Nylon, Wool, Handmade paper 4)Insects - Dragon-Fly wing, Worker Bee wing, Bee antenna, Bee abdomen 5)Plants - Stem of corn, Leaf of nerium, Onion rind, Silver berry scaly hair 6)Animals - Cat hair, Canary feather, Dog hair, Sheep hair All the specimens for each category is color coded. I am very happy with my purchase. These slides are perfect for homeschooling younger children ages 5 - 11. I would guess that any older than that and the child would be bored. A lot of science books require that a child look at specific things under a microscope but one can't be located. These are perfect for that situation. Add on some blank slides and the experience is perfect. If you're looking for a great microscope, check out "My First Lab Duo-Scope." Average Rating:![]() |

Scientific Explorer's Disgusting Science - A Kit for Studying the Science of Revolting ThingsReviewswasn't impressed with this kit. The plastic petry dishes break easily and the tubes do not seal well. The kit is messy and my 10 old daughter needed a lot of help to do the projects. She lost interest in it quickly. This was a gift from my mom and I loved it. I did a science project with it and had soooooooooooooooooooooooo much fun. If you are thinking of buying I would say yes buy it shu shu shut your mouth just bye it.I love it it was soooo much fun to grow the bacteria and make the fake blood. The intestine was gross but I still loved to squeeze it. I bought this as a gift for my nephew for Christmas. He seemed to really be excited and opened it while we were visiting and really enjoyed it. I purchased 2 of these kits for my grandsons for Christmas. When one of them opened his, the plastic packet inside had exploded and ruined some of the contents. I wrote to the toy maker and explained my problem and that I had purchased the gift earlier on Amazon and it exceeded the 30 day return policy. The box was sealed, the silver packet inside was sealed and the small plastic packet inside that was still sealed. I quickly received a response that the toy company would immediately replace the packet that was ruined. Would never hesitate to purchase anything from them, since they stand behind their products so well. Here is a fun way to introduce reluctant learners to science. Probably works well with willing learners too. The kids had a lot of fun with this and I would recommend it as a gift for any kid. Average Rating:![]() |

Pre-Med Flashcards MCAT Review Program - Study All The MCAT Content with Over 1900 FlashcardsReviewsI've recently bought the Premed Flashcards, and had some problem installing it. The customer service of this product is superb, it was very fast, responsive and helpful. I haven't worked on the software a lot, but seems like it cover almost everything we need to know for the MCAT. Great product overall! Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R1BBUFZ53RCT9E This video will give you a tour of the features offered in Pre-Med Flashcards This program was great. It explained some difficult concepts in concise, simple terms which helped me remember on MCAT day when the pressure is high so you can use the information learned and apply to the passage. This was very helpful for this. Give 5 stars. I thought this program is a great review of the MCAT core concepts, and I feel like the program is priced right - you get a lot of flashcards and you get an easy-to-use program. I will definitely recommend this to my Pre Med friends. A solid 4 star product; I relied upon the flashcards as a break from just reading MCAT study texts. While I thought most of the flashcards were helpful, I did feel that some of them were just too basic and several of the cards simply had the science concepts stated in a non-helpful manner. Some of the cards were written in sort of layman's terms which made me wonder if these cards were actually parepared by science professionals or by someone simply reading out of a textbook. However, most of the flashcards were correct and were helpful. Some had some good mnemonics and some had some that were just plain silly. However, no MCAT review system is perfect. For what it is worth, I wouldn't use this system exclusively by itself, but coupled with another MCAT text review product and use this as an alternative study product to keep your memory fresh on the concepts until test time. Overall, a pretty good deal for the low price. Would definitely recommend to my classmates who are studying for the MCAT to check it out. Average Rating:![]() |
