12 Songs From Call Me Madam (1950 Studio Cast) With Selections From Panama Hattie (1940 Original Cast Recording) 12 Songs From Call Me Madam (1950 Studio Cast) With Selections From Panama Hattie (1940 Original Cast Recording)

Reviews

As noted in another review, there was a serious glitch with the cast album of Call Me Madam, Merman recorded for Decca and RCA thought they had the rights to the cast album, so when the show seemed to be a smash, there was a war on. Like most wars, no one really won. The original orchestrations are quite wonderful and fit both the story and Merman's style, but Decca couldn't use them. RCA had to find someone to cover Merman's role, but honestly who could possibly fill Merman's shoes? So, here we get what is essentially Merman's great stage performance, with the second best broadway score Irving Berlin wrote, just behind Annie Get Your Gun. The Annie Get Your Gun cast album is kind of a mess, albeit one with a great performance from La Merman, but this cast album is a little better. When Merman did revisit Annie in the revival 20 years later, the voice wasn't all that steady any more. This is simply one of the best recordings, along with Happy Hunting that Merman did. For all the faults, this is the Call Me Madam to have. If you want to hear the original orchestrations, may I suggest the Encores concert cast with Tyne Daly in the Merman role. She may not be Merman but she acquits herself with bravura style. The selections from Panama Hattie are wonderful, the transfers only so so. I have not heard better transfers, and I have 3 of the four tracks on a comprehensive Cole Porter career survey. The problem was Decca was VERY LATE coming to using tape. Even as late as the first Annie Get Your Gun cast album, Decca was recording onto wax. Therefore the selections here exist only as Wax Masters. The same problem occurs with much of Bing Crosby's recorded output, its almost impossible to get the quality of transfer that he so richly deserves because there are no studio tapes. Get this album for the great Merman singing a heck of a Berlin score.

There may indeed be no business like show business. RCA was a major backer of this musical, and fully expected to record the original cast album. Decca, Merman's recording label, wouldn't allow her to appear. The solution the two compnaies decided on was an original cast album on RCA featuring Dinah Shore doing Merman's numbers, and this mediocre studio album.Decca was never a winner when it came to modern recording techniques. Merman's voice has no echo or reverb to enhance her performance. The arrangements are by Gordon Jenkins, which fit Ethel's style like it was a dress bought in a bargain basement. It is a shame that in the later years of her life, Ethel didn't choose to revisit this score and re-record it, as she did with Annie Get Your Gun twice. The selections from Panama Hattie are a nice rarity, but they are taken from scratchy shellac originals. There are several compilations that include these numbers with no annoying extraneous noise.

'Saving money is fun': that's the early message of a treatise on saving for kids ages 2 and older, which offers up Joe the Monkey and his friends as they learn not only the elements of saving, but sharing and spending smart. Parents seeking to impart money basics at a very young age will want to make this a top selection.

My 3-year-old twins really enjoy this DVD and ask for it again and again. The music is great and easy on parental ears, too! It's a great tool to use to help teach your children about the value of money. My daughter is already "getting it" -- just the other day she held up a penny and started to sing, "One coin for the Coconut Card!"

The Money Mammals: Saving Money Is Fun from Snigglezoo Entertainment is a brilliantly presented collection of informative ideas for informing young children about money and effectively guiding them into the good habits of saving their money. Using lively and colorful puppets, The Money Mammals informs while it entertains, including a featured song list that includes We're The Money Mammals (Theme Song), One Coin (for the Coconut Card), Red Straw Hat (for Clara's Birthday), I'm Frugal, Make a Choice, Saving Money Really Rules, Reasons To Save, and Let's Make The Right Choice. The Money Mammals is very highly recommended as a 30 minute, full color DVD for all parents hoping to instill the practice of handling money responsible and master the art of saving money for future needs on a sound and regular basis.

I am very impressed with this DVD! And most importantly, so are my three children. My kids (ranging from age 1-1/2 to 3-1/2) ALL enjoy this show. My older son appreciates the relationships between the characters and is getting a grasp of the importance of money in his life and is learning how to make smart decisions about spending. My younger children LOVE the music and energy of the show. All three kids ask for me to play it over and over again! I'm so happy to have found a show that's entertaining for my kids and teaches important values at the same time. I'm going to buy this for all of our upcoming birthdays. This is one DVD that I am HAPPY to play over again!

Daevid is back with a reel to reel firecracker of an album. With the backing provided by Mushroom who seem to be perfect for DA's unique style. The cd starts off with "Money doesn't make it" graduall y evolving into Burn your Money detailing the evil of money and it's effect on folk. The album continues, commenting on Bad teachers, computer follies, character (de)faults and a host of stuff I haven't deciphered yet! All set to some pretty wild bass, KB, guitar and drum that should please all the PHPs :) It's a pretty blistering attack on our society and isn't that strange coming from him as he has always spoken his mind and be damned to the "Man" heh! Get out there and buy it, support ome of the world's finest composers of music and the master of Gliss!

Cooking for Cash (How to Make Serious Money with Your Own Mobile Food Business) Volume 1 Cooking for Cash (How to Make Serious Money with Your Own Mobile Food Business) Volume 1

Reviews

I ordered this DVD together with a book that I will review separately. This DVD has a lot of interesting information about the mobile food business that i never have heard about previously. A lot of this information is hard to find on the internet. It covers a lot of the basics of setting up a food trailer business and cooking the different food items on the menu. There is a lot more to it than I thought- it is clear that this can't be done overnight- even though you could slap together a trailer fast, but for long term success it is better to build a solid reputation in the market. That is the only way to survive in this business. At festivals you have to do what you can to make your customers choose you over your competition. This has a lot to do with your unique looks and the foods you are selling as well. I've bought many different business information courses from various vendors on the internet and this material is very good on its own. I have been is the small restaurant business over 5 years now and am still fascinated by its possibilities. I knew next to nothing when I got started with catering and wish now I would have taken time to talk to more people to learn from their experiences. There for sure was no one telling you how it's done back then! This dvd has the right idea- Get your foods out there and the customers will come! Build your business slowly- One sandwich at a time!

How to Make Money in Stocks: A Winning System in Good Times and Bad, Fourth Edition How to Make Money in Stocks: A Winning System in Good Times and Bad, Fourth Edition

Reviews

I read this at the urging of a friend. As background, I'm a retired professional investment advisor, have been through the Chartered Financial Analyst curriculum, and have decades of investing experience. I am therefore instantly suspicious of a book that promises on its back cover that "Anyone can learn to invest wisely with this bestselling investment system!" Granted, O'Neil clearly spends all his time with his charts, and otherwise must not get out yet. He comments that NASDAQ an OTC trading venue, not an exchange, when in fact NASDAQ gained exchange status in 2006. He thinks that air traffic accidents are investigated by the Civil Aeronautics Board, which lost its safety responsibilities to the FAA in 1978. Most tellingly, he writes, "Unfortunately, no original or thorough research on price pattern analysis has been done in the last 78 years." Even a brief perusal of the academic journals on investing and finance would have shown him that this isn't true. Much of the book focuses on chart reading. O'Neil includes many historical charts that clearly show his patterns. Unfortunately, many of the patterns are only clear in retrospect. For example, he describes a double-bottom pattern, shaped like a "W," where you should buy in as the right side moves up past the middle point of the W. Then he describes a double-bottom with handle, where the right side of the W is followed by a modest decline, and then you want to wait to buy until it reaches the top of the right side of the W. However, he describes no way to tell in advance whether the pattern will have a handle. By the time you know that there's a handle, you'll have already purchased on the right side of the W. As another example, he shows patterns for detecting market bottoms. However, you can look to the left of where he marks the bottom, and often see a false bottom that meets exactly the same criteria. I suspect that O'Neil, given his experience, has other ways to gauge the validity of these stock patterns. Unfortunately, if he can't describe them, it greatly reduces the value of the book. That probably explains why he adds the caveat that it takes years for someone to start reliably making money using his "system." Some people, with experience, will develop the same ability to figure out when the chart patterns are correct. However, it's very misleading to describe the book's contents as a "system," which in the investing world means a set of rules that can be strictly followed. Instead, it's a set of guidelines and philosophies on which you will have to add your own hard-earned experience to create a system. Which brings me back to the overinflated claim that, "Anyone can learn to invest wisely with this bestselling investment system!" It's absolutely false. So much is left to discretion that it will require someone with particular aptitudes to be successful at it. If you enjoy doing extensive analysis, have an innate skill at identifying visual patterns, and have the patience to study and learn chart reading, then you will probably be successful with O'Neil's approach. Someone who doesn't meet those criteria will almost certainly fail.

Good introduction to equity investing for retail investors. O'Neil's methods do not work for professional fund managers.

Some good thoughts mixed with some b.s. and a lot of self advertising for his business. The pro america agenda was unnecessary as was the views on politics and Iran.

I was really looking for a book on trading stocks (versus investing) and I believe that this book offers lessons applicable to both. When I first began trading stocks online, I made the exact mistakes that this book says not to do. When a stock jumped in price, I sold and took profits too early when I should have held on and purchased more. When a stock fell in price, I either bought more stock to bring my average cost down or held on to my losing stocks too long "knowing" that eventually they would have to come back up. I was wrong. These are the classic mistakes that according to the book, most traders make, which is why they end up losing their money. And this was the exact same thing that happened to me. If I had read this book before getting into the market, I may have been able to prevent the big losses and keep the small gains I had been able to make. I would definetly recommend this book to anyone interested in learning how to trade or invest in the stock market. I haven't tried out the "CAN SLIM" system taught in this book, so I can't tell you if it works or not or that I made money following it, but I can tell you that the system makes sense and is worth learning even if you choose not to follow it.

Absolutely this book is a classic! In his book, Bill O'neil calls his breakout trading system "CANSLIM". Each letter in the word C-A-N-S-L-I-M stands for one of the seven chief characteristics of great winning Growth Stocks at their early developing stages, just before they make huge profits for their shareholders. The explanation of each letter is as follows: * C = Current Quarterly Earnings Per Share * A = Annual Earnings Increases * N = New Products, New Management, New Highs * S = Supply and Demand: Small Capitalization plus Volume Demand * L = Leader or Laggard * I = Institutional Sponsorship * M = Market Direction: What is the overall Stock Market doing? This system works, and this book teaches you both fundamental and technical analysis.

Cover page slightly worn-out. Pages color are yellish. But, apart of this, everything seems OK. in the website it announced I 'd have received the book on first Marc, more than 1 and half month!. But it arrives "just2 after a month. I'd not expect such a long time for an international package.

This an excellent book that presents how fund managers think in selecting companies to invest in. It is very easy to understand and written easy to follow format. And alotugh Peter Lynch is no longer around investing actively, it remains as a classic. However, in reality these methods take time to implement. Many times you would not have the advantage to find such companies. And there are other methods to make money that are based on more technical methods. Check out the books of Toby Crabel and Linda Raschke - they are hedge fund managers. Although their books are out of print you will see how they make money though showing you the patterns they use. IF you are lucky you may still their books on Ebay or Amazon somewhere.

Peter Lynch is a successful value investor who get recognized by Warren Buffett. Peter shows some really good points in this books which still apply in today's market. Stocks you should avoid: # The hottest stock in the hottest industry # Beware the next something

This book is perfect for beginners, or for those looking for a quick, yet still comprehensive review of how to choose stocks on your own. A fun read too!

It only has less than 5% of full paper version of book. The paper book is great, I would give five stars.

ProBlogger: Secrets for Blogging Your Way to a Six-Figure Income ProBlogger: Secrets for Blogging Your Way to a Six-Figure Income

Reviews

I have been reading ProBlogger for years and have always taken the advice given in the well-written posts I have read on the site. This book is full of the best of the blog, plus more. For me, this book is used as a reference book that I go back to time and time again. At times, as someone who wants to make a full-time living online, all what I think about is how to make money as fast and easy as possible. This book does give quality advice on how to monetize a blog, but most importantly, the author stresses (and teaches) how to create a good, quality blog people will want to come back to every day and tell their friends about. Yes, it takes time to build a good blog, but the results are worth it. Thank you for the examples of successful blogs that have given me inspiration.

Over the past month or so I've been wanting to get back into blogging and trying to figure out what my personal blog should be focused on. What's my niche? Why do people read my blog? What should I write about? It's the type of questions that I believe every blogger asks at some point in the life of their blog. Through the course of asking myself these questions, having a couple of conversations with a friend about a new joint-venture in blogging, and looking for some ideas to generate a little extra money on the side I decided to buy a copy of the book ProBlogger by Darren Rowse and Chris Garrett. I'm glad I did. The sub-title of the book is "Secrets for Blogging Your Way to a Six-Figure Income," so I was expecting the it to be mostly a "I got rich blogging and here are the ways that you can get rich quickly, too" type of book, but getting rich quick was not really the main focus of the book. There are a few chapters on money-making blogging strategies, but the majority of the book is devoted to helping you figure out how to run an effective blog. In fact, throughout the book the authors stress that most successful/profitable blogs are the result of years of work. The main takeaway that I got from the book was that the best blogs are ones that focus on a niche market. The more specific the niche the better. Beyond that, the book was filled with practical ideas on how to write content that people want to read and gave numerous specific examples on how to generate ideas for new blog posts. Overall, I'm really glad I spent the time to read the book. I don't know whether or not I'll make even a dime from blogging, but it has given me some motivation to get back in the game. If you're new to blogging, a veteran blogger looking for ideas to get unstuck, or trying to figure out how you might make a little money writing in your spare time I highly recommend getting a copy of the book for yourself.

If anyone could write this book, it's Darren and Chris. Both have not only shared their insights but have also applied it throughout their online careers. There is no juju here. No secret formulas. No dirty tactics that dominate much of the space. This is an honest, common sense series of recommendations that have proven solid. Highly recommend.

This book is top notch for any blogger. Read it today and learn all about how to grow your business via blogging or how to make your blog your business. The advice and information in this book is great. As a blogger who has been blogging for awhile, I still found quite a bit of new information in this book. If you are serious about making your blog a success you should listen to these guys. I follow there blog and it is great as well.

Great info, but gave up on the hope of making money blogging. Tells you how to make money, I gave up on it, all though if you have unique ideas, I could see it working.
