Classic Alcohol Burner Lamp - 3 Position Canister - Adjustable Flame Classic Alcohol Burner Lamp - 3 Position Canister - Adjustable Flame

I needed something that gave me more heat and flame for the larger items I was working on and it did all that.

The alcohol burner lamp was exactly as described and arrived very quickly in good order. For those who need a alcohol burner lamp for crafts or, as in my case, bassoon reed making, this is the one to get!

Brain Fitness 2: Sight & Sound Brain Fitness 2: Sight & Sound

Reviews

My husband and I have just begun to use Brain Fitness 2: Sight & Sound. We're both enjoying it. It's interesting to use and I have great hope it will help me keep the level of 'fitness' I now enjoy and perhaps improve it as I age. I'll get back to you with further updates.

I caught part of this show on TV and then went out to purchase it. The program goes into the causes and effects of sight and sound in relationship to age and other factors. I am using it in my art class to tell students how they see and how they can train their eyes and brain to work together to really see the world as it is vs. how our brain tells it is.

I contacted the sellers with my new address to send it to once the package was returned to them. I went back to the old address for a week and nothing came. I asked some else to check the following week but to no adval. I contacted the seller to let them be aware of the change in address if returned, I heard nothing from them. This is not the service from your sub-contators I am use to. I hope you can straighten them out. Dan Layton

The Best of Beakman's World The Best of Beakman's World

Reviews

This is a great DVD for any age. Beakman makes learning fun. I wish the earlier episodes were included. Like the one that explains where ear wax comes from . . .truly gross!!

My husband and I used to love watching Beakman's world on Saturday mornings (as well as Parker Lewis Can't Lose), so this show obviously has a broad base. It is irreverant, and shows a more "urban" feel than Bill Nye The Science Guy but they are both cut from the same cloth. Quick cut edits, weird sound effects, snappy dialog, fun science. Toddlers wouldn't like or appreciate this or Bill Nye, but my kids (9.5, 8 and 5) all love both, and after watching this DVD, immediately ran outside to try out some of the experiments he showed them. Gotta love that! It is slightly dated (I think they talk about records or cassette tapes in the start of the DVD), but the science still holds, and there's nothing quite like Beakman and his friends!

[5 stars for the program, 4 for the DVD, sight unseen, because they tell me there isn't enough Josie] I wasn't going to review this item, as I felt there was no need. I only came here to buy this item for my age 6 son, and scanned the reviews in hope that one might contain information on which episodes/excerpts were included in this video. But I stumbled on a review that was just WRONG, and saw that others had marked it as helpful, and then thought of the children who would be deprived of this opportunity to learn AND have fun which is NOT AVAILABLE ANYWHERE ELSE. I COULD NOT leave this alone. While I replied to the review, THIS WAS NOT ENOUGH. A shortened version of my reply: [that other review]"...two puppet penguins...when one stated that he was "younger and sexier" than the other, I began to worry." And it goes on. Whoever put this DVD together obviously made a major error, in that this joke was now made out-of-context in editing. Bearing no real sexual content whatsoever, it's a biological/genetics joke: said penguins are *twins*. As such, any reference to difference in age or physical appeal is essentially moot. Therein lies the joke. My sister was 3 when she heard this joke, and she got it immediately. She recently credited this show with getting A's in COLLEGE science classes, having had no real immersion in science in between. My grandmother, wife of a minister, and mother of 3 others, was also tickled pink when she heard this joke. These penguins typically represented "what-not-to-do", much like "Mr. Lundt" from Veggie Tales, and all viewers come away with the impression to avoid their behavior and actions, now and always. ""Beakman" was obnoxious..." ...[blink, blink].... I truly believe that anyone who reads this line should go look up that word. "Oscar the Grouch" and countless other children's characters ARE obnoxious, even sometimes when they're put forth as "the good guy". Nye is obnoxious as often as not. "Beakman" more than anything else was "put-upon", trying to teach both the viewers and the other characters fun things about science, but fighting an uphill battle all the way. The "talking hands" are used on purpose to direct the eye and to capture and keep the attention of viewers under age 10. Dozens of studies show that this also helps children retain what they've just heard--often for the rest of their lives. It's especially helpful for children *and adults* with everything from A.D.D. to dyslexia to focal seizures. It's how many oral-tradition cultures kept their histories alive and INTACT for milennia. The "tattooed mouse" is a favorite of other reviewers, and made the top 20 in favorite children's characters numerous times and in widely varied places. The actress who portrays the much-missed Josie (who made the top TEN above) continues to give award-winning performances in vastly differing genres, such as being singled out for excellence in both good and bad reviews of The Brady Bunch Movie. Millions worldwide agree that: the original Sesame Street was the best overall childrens' educational show ever the Letter People was the best preschool childrens' educational show for learning to read, ever the Electric Company was the best age 6+ childrens' educational show, for learning to read and for gaining command of English, ever Math Net was the best childrens' educational show, for learning the basics and cultivating interest in math, ever THIS SHOW was the best childrens' educational show, for learning the basics and cultivating interest in science, ever I loathe half the children's programs currently running. My family and I have only agreed on 7 things EVER; this show was one of them. If I could afford it, I would buy a few hundred copies of this DVD to give to all I know with children and to local schools and children's centers and more. Naturally I second the motion made by reviewer "Dakota" (and others) to press the issue and get the entire series out on DVD. I was in my teens and had been in advanced science classes from 1st grade on, and still found this program to be helpful, informative, and entertaining enough to write all that I have here (and could easily add more) and to seek out this program for my son. Regardless of where you purchase "Beakman" DVD's or how much you pay for them, GET THEM if you have children of any age at home.

This guy is the best thing to get preteens and teens a like, to enjoy the world of science. easy experiments with house hold items. Great for pearant to spend time with their kids on those day your stuck in the house and you keep hearing "I'm Bored!" my two year old enjoys them also. I highly recomend this DVD and anything else that is Beakman's world!!!

I have always liked Beakmans World and when I saw this DVD I got it.I loved it.I wish it was longer though,or better yet, come out with the entire show on DVD.

The Birds, the Bees and Me: For Boys The Birds, the Bees and Me: For Boys

Reviews

I was looking for a dvd that focused on the changes of puberty in greater detail. I thought there would be details about hormones and physical changes with minimal mention of conception and sexual intercourse. I had planned to use this in a school setting but with the cartoon representation of intercourse, I cannot use it. I considered using the dvd up to that point but there wasn't enough information about the changes of puberty to warrant the $20 price tag.

This is a great product with quick, concise information for 11-13 yr. olds. Kids need to know accurate information from their parents, so it can open the door for questions. My boys did not want to know too much, just a few facts. Sometimes with a talk, kids hear blah, blah, blah. This video is enough information, not too much detail.

Great tool for those parents that feel uncomfortable talking about sex.My son was actually ready to ask me questions!!

This was a very informative, educational movie. It was age appropriate and allowed my step son to ask questions during and after the movie. I think this is great!! Cute animations as well.

I got this tape for my 13 year old son and it was very helpful. It explained everything and open the door for questions to be asked. I think it is a good ice breaker for women who are trying to explain the birds and the bees to a son.

The video "Pond Animals" is a fun, educational, easy-to-watch video for kids of all ages. I have used it as a classroom resource for teaching life cycle units with 2nd and 3rd graders as well as playing it over and over for my 3-year-old son. The video is broken into 4 animal segments for ducks, frogs, salamanders and dragonfly's. The animals are shown in semi-realistic habitats interacting with each other and other types of animals. Each segment is proceeded and ended with a brief animated sequence depicting the animal's life cycle stages. The overall video quality is very good and uses great close up shots of eggs, larvae and adult animals. A super teaching tool for both parents and educators!

Never Cry Wolf Never Cry Wolf

Reviews

This video is excellent! The cinematography is superb, combined with a story that starts slow but builds speed as it progresses. I do not have children, and I enjoyed this movie immensely. But should you nhave children, they would like it as well. Just a really great, wholesome movie that anyone from 5-100 will like. Especially those that love wilderness or specifically Alaskan type wilderness stories. Remniscent of Jack Londons books, but with a more modern storyline. With the price at Amazon, you just can't go wrong. And their service is incredibly quick. Don't even bother with ---Bay, Amazon.com is the way to go. I will now get all my movies through them! Tulpan is a great foreign film. Filmed by a Russian filmaker, set in the Tibetan Steppes, this movie is another great film. Snow Walker is a film to be seen. Set in the 1950's, another adventure set in the Alaskan wilderness. Filmed by the same filmaker as Never Cry Wolf, I believe???? Farley Mowat??? Anyway, a plane crashes and the pilot finds his true self with a native American girl he crashes with (his plane). Another modern western is Tom Berenger in "Last of the Dogmen". A little sappy perhaps, but a neat little story. Sorry to digress from the original subject, "Never Cry Wolf". Great little movie, great price. Check it out for the family or for yourself and significant other. I believe most if not all of these films are available on Amazon.com at great prices and excellent service. Don't bother with the lousy competition! Amazon is the way to go!!!! 12-24-2009 Marvin L. Sloan

I still like The Snow Walker by the same author the best. This film is an interesting sutdy of nature in the north. A very good film.

NEVER CRY WOLF IS WORTH SEEING AGAIN AND AGAIN. LOTS OF LESSONS TO BE LEARNED AND A FINE PERFORMANCE BY ALL INVOLVED...INCLUDING THE WOLVES. GREAT FOR KIDS OVER 6 WHO LOVE ANIMALS.

Loved this movie. Interesting exciting and best of all, based on a true story :-) Bought it for my nephew-he loved it too and showed it to his friends.

I had seen this movie when it first came out and was really impressed. Now that my son is older, he's into camping and nature just as I am. I thought it would be nice to share it with him. The whole family really enjoyed it and it's one we'll watch again and again. It does a great job of conveying the need for respect for the natural world without sounding Hollywood preachy.

The Relic [Blu-ray] The Relic [Blu-ray]

Reviews

Many years ago I read the book, THE RELIC by Preston / Child. I was impressed. Then, I happened to read an article in FANGORIA about a coming movie-version. I was excited! I waited until it came out, watched it, and hated it. Why? Because it was nothing like the book! Plus, the monster was nowhere near as hideous as I had imagined it to be! Well, I just re-watched THE RELIC last night and have discovered something. This is a fantastic monster movie! Time has healed my wounds and dulled my memory enough to simply sit back and enjoy the story. I approached it as though I'd never seen it before, allowing my mind to take it in without preconceived judgements. Presto! I loved it! Sure, it's got that ALIEN / MIMIC thing going on, but hey, it's still a wonderful monster flick w/ a true juggernaut of death for a monster! Definitely worth owning... P.S.- Watch for James Whitmore (THEM!) as a scientist, and Audra Lindley (TV's Three's Company) as the coroner! Great stuff...

I just watched the trailer for this movie and saw the dog .... I want to see this movie but if something bad happens to the dog I don't think I will. Animals getting hurt even in movies is too disturbing. Can anyone tell me yea or nay on this so I'll know whether to rent the movie .... Thanks!

I like Tom Sizemore, and Penelope Ann Miller, and this little movie had some half decent scares in it ( particularly towards the end ), but it is nowhere near as frightening as the Preston, and Child book, and I for one really had a problem with the absence of the eccentric FBI agent Pendergast, and the often unintentionaly funny, though persistent, rag-reporter, Smithback ( both main characters in the book ). Still, despite some abysmal lapses in credibility I found myself liking the film enough to watch it again. It's hardly a masterpiece, but it does not deserve to be vilified either.

There's nothing wrong with "B" horror movies-I like some (The Unnamable, Pumpkin Head, etc etc), but this was not memorable. There were some scary scenes, but overall, it was 2 hours I'll never get back.

May not have made it to the big screen but is really a good movie even with no name actors, thrilling from start to finish, leaves you wondering what is going to happen next

Human Spark With Alan Alda Human Spark With Alan Alda

Reviews

I missed this show on PBS, so I had to wait for this DVD release. The show is broken up into 3 distinct parts, each 60 minutes in length. The first part explains how the human species evolved, and why we charted one course of evolution as opposed to another. The focus is on anthropology, evolutionary anthropology, and archaeology. The second part focuses on the similarities and differences between humans and our closest relatives, chimps. And the final part was about the brain and how brain imaging can provide clues about our thought processes and language. The show, combined as a whole, was about what makes us uniquely human (or not); we are actually very similar to other animals. Alan Alda is the host and narrator - he was just average as a host; he's extremely old, not very knowledgeable about the subject and looked tired the whole time. If you have ever read or watched Guns, Germs and Steel by Diamond (and enjoyed it), then this is similar and would likely be of interest to you. The good thing is that because the episodes are in 60 minute segments you can pick and choose what part you do/don't want to watch. I enjoy these educational programs and would rate this one as very watchable and interesting.

Folligen Solution Therapy Spray Folligen Solution Therapy Spray

Reviews

Hair loss has too parts, DHT accumulation and inflammation. This spray is soothing and proven by science to take care of the later problem.

I've used this for 5 weeks now and it hasn't worked for me, not even a little. I also didn't like that there were no instructions/directions for use so it's difficult knowing if you're using the right amount or applying it correctly (maybe that's why it hasn't worked for me?). The smell is strange, but it's the kind of smell that if it worked, you wouldn't really be bothered. Was hoping for a better result than what I got for the money.

I bought this product at the suggestion of the girl at the spa who waxes my eyebrows, My eyebrows have become scanty looking and need alot of filling in , after a month of applying folligen with a q tip to my eyebrows, I am noticing a difference, I also spray it in my hair after showering and comb through, I even feel my hair is thicker and shinier

I'm a woman in my mid-30s experiencing genetically-linked thinning hair. For the past two years especially, my hair had been so brittle that running my fingers through it would break strands, and my scalp was easily visible. I had seriously been considering just shaving my head and being done with it! I had already been using Minoxidil (5% solution) alone for several years, with minimal results. I have been using Folligen spray for 2 months now (once a day) in addition to Minoxidil, and I have noticed a marked improvement in my hair's health. It is much less brittle than it used to be, much less frizzy, and feels noticeably thicker. I have also noticed that I shed much less hair when I take a shower. A word of caution: If you are blonde, this product will tinge your hair and scalp slightly green. I have dark hair, and so it's not so much of an issue for me. Also, this product does have a distinct coppery odor when you first apply it that does go away once it's dry. One bottle, if used once a day, seems to last about 2 months. All in all, this product has definitely been worth it for me!

I originally tried this spray as a hair-regrowth solution. It worked moderately well (I could definitely see an improvement), but I decided it was too messy to use on a regular basis and what hair I did have left wasn't worth the effort. I did discover that it is very effective at reducing scars for small- to medium-sized wounds. I would clean the wound with some alcohol, dab some neosporin (or equivalent), spray the padded part of a band-aid with the Folligen, and then stick on the band-aid. It helped me get rid of a really nasty burn scar from the oven and now I use it regularly for any minor wounds. I can definitely recommend this for anyone who is in the early stages of hair loss or anyone who wants to help reduce scarring in general.

Are You a Dragonfly? (Backyard Books) Are You a Dragonfly? (Backyard Books)

Reviews

Not much to it, but its a cute kids book material feels high quality

We love this book, as well as the others in the series. A perfect mixture of learning and fun. I even learned things about dragonflies I didn't know.

This little science book teaches about the life cycle of the dragonfly and a little of its history. It does this by pointing out the differences between dragonflies and humans (humans never have to worry about being eaten by a duck). It starts by asking the title question. Insects have often been thought of as fascinating for boys and scary for girls and I wonder if that had anything to do with the creation of this book. I wonder because all of the children pictured are girls. My daughter was intrigued by the book and had me read it several times. I do not know if the interest will stick and have more readings requested or not. One can only think that the series as a whole is best suited for libraries with only the favorite creature or two being purchased for the home. Whether you decide to borrow or buy is up to you but I am sure you will find the book well laid out and informative.

This is an excellent book for a new reader. The wording is simple and easy to understand describing the life cycle of a dragonfly and the illustrations are quite beautiful. I gave this book to my 7 year old grandson and he loves it! I plan to buy more books in this informative, interesting series. I highly recommend it!!

HP HP30S Scientific Calculator with Multi-Colored Faceplates HP HP30S Scientific Calculator with Multi-Colored Faceplates

Reviews

This cheap calculator is my beloved. All my classmates in high school had Casios, and I could never understand why! This calculator is so simple to use, has quite an array of useful and extra capabilities, and I never even needed to read the manual! Mine is still alive and kicking after more than 7 years. Notice that some people said the calculator crashed often, this sometimes happens because the batteries it comes with is used or old or something, it happened to me too, but after you change the batteries this is a forever kind of calculator.

For the price ($17 in our university bookstore), this is a superb calculator that offers both a quadratic and a simultaneous equation solver. Since it is not RPN, the HP fanboys will hate it, but it does offer a lot of features in a small package and is a great competitor to the TI 30X series. The only one I might suggest over this is the Sharp EL-506W, which offers solvers and integrals for about the same price.

I love this calculator. It is extremely easy to use and the value for the price is crazy good! A lot of people in my stats class paid triple for their calculators compared to what I paid for this calculator and mine is way easier to use.

This product looks good, but you should always be suspicious when one of a technical item's selling points is a fashion statement like a multi-colored faceplate. Dell tried this and dropped it -- too bad HP didn't catch on. In summary, the HP30s is a piece of junk. The display started to have pixel failures after only a few hours of use. It is not anywhere near the quality of the old HP business and scientific calculators. I have a HP12c that is twenty years old and going strong. I didn't get 20 days out of the HP30s.

I am an engineer and a long-time fan of H.P. products. The HP-30S, however, is a disaster. It started acting dodgy immediately after I purchased it, and it ultimately became so unreliable that I had to find a replacement. Maybe I'm being overly harsh because of my disappointment with both the product and the brand, but I really hope this is an anomaly and not an indication of the direction H.P is heading. p.s. I purchased a Casio 115MS as a replacement, and I am very happy with it.
