12 Songs From Call Me Madam (1950 Studio Cast) With Selections From Panama Hattie (1940 Original Cast Recording) 12 Songs From Call Me Madam (1950 Studio Cast) With Selections From Panama Hattie (1940 Original Cast Recording)

Reviews

Very Good CD I had this on record many years ago. Was so glad that I came across it on cd.

As noted in another review, there was a serious glitch with the cast album of Call Me Madam, Merman recorded for Decca and RCA thought they had the rights to the cast album, so when the show seemed to be a smash, there was a war on. Like most wars, no one really won. The original orchestrations are quite wonderful and fit both the story and Merman's style, but Decca couldn't use them. RCA had to find someone to cover Merman's role, but honestly who could possibly fill Merman's shoes? So, here we get what is essentially Merman's great stage performance, with the second best broadway score Irving Berlin wrote, just behind Annie Get Your Gun. The Annie Get Your Gun cast album is kind of a mess, albeit one with a great performance from La Merman, but this cast album is a little better. When Merman did revisit Annie in the revival 20 years later, the voice wasn't all that steady any more. This is simply one of the best recordings, along with Happy Hunting that Merman did. For all the faults, this is the Call Me Madam to have. If you want to hear the original orchestrations, may I suggest the Encores concert cast with Tyne Daly in the Merman role. She may not be Merman but she acquits herself with bravura style. The selections from Panama Hattie are wonderful, the transfers only so so. I have not heard better transfers, and I have 3 of the four tracks on a comprehensive Cole Porter career survey. The problem was Decca was VERY LATE coming to using tape. Even as late as the first Annie Get Your Gun cast album, Decca was recording onto wax. Therefore the selections here exist only as Wax Masters. The same problem occurs with much of Bing Crosby's recorded output, its almost impossible to get the quality of transfer that he so richly deserves because there are no studio tapes. Get this album for the great Merman singing a heck of a Berlin score.

There may indeed be no business like show business. RCA was a major backer of this musical, and fully expected to record the original cast album. Decca, Merman's recording label, wouldn't allow her to appear. The solution the two compnaies decided on was an original cast album on RCA featuring Dinah Shore doing Merman's numbers, and this mediocre studio album.Decca was never a winner when it came to modern recording techniques. Merman's voice has no echo or reverb to enhance her performance. The arrangements are by Gordon Jenkins, which fit Ethel's style like it was a dress bought in a bargain basement. It is a shame that in the later years of her life, Ethel didn't choose to revisit this score and re-record it, as she did with Annie Get Your Gun twice. The selections from Panama Hattie are a nice rarity, but they are taken from scratchy shellac originals. There are several compilations that include these numbers with no annoying extraneous noise.

Cooking for Cash (How to Make Serious Money with Your Own Mobile Food Business) Volume 1 Cooking for Cash (How to Make Serious Money with Your Own Mobile Food Business) Volume 1

Reviews

I ordered this DVD together with a book that I will review separately. This DVD has a lot of interesting information about the mobile food business that i never have heard about previously. A lot of this information is hard to find on the internet. It covers a lot of the basics of setting up a food trailer business and cooking the different food items on the menu. There is a lot more to it than I thought- it is clear that this can't be done overnight- even though you could slap together a trailer fast, but for long term success it is better to build a solid reputation in the market. That is the only way to survive in this business. At festivals you have to do what you can to make your customers choose you over your competition. This has a lot to do with your unique looks and the foods you are selling as well. I've bought many different business information courses from various vendors on the internet and this material is very good on its own. I have been is the small restaurant business over 5 years now and am still fascinated by its possibilities. I knew next to nothing when I got started with catering and wish now I would have taken time to talk to more people to learn from their experiences. There for sure was no one telling you how it's done back then! This dvd has the right idea- Get your foods out there and the customers will come! Build your business slowly- One sandwich at a time!

Infinite Wealth Through the Law of Attraction Hypnosis CD -- Billionaire Inspired Infinite Wealth Through the Law of Attraction Hypnosis CD -- Billionaire Inspired

Reviews

The first time I heard the opening line from this CD, "Welcome," I immediately thought, OMG, what have I bought? The sound and tone of Alex's voice was at first weird and off-putting. But I stuck with it. I listened all the way through, which is difficult, because it's so relaxing, I usually fall asleep... which, according to most hypnotists, is all right. At any rate, the more I listen to this beautiful CD, the more I hear things I somehow missed on previous listenings. As if more and more keeps magically appearing on the tracks. I swear I have no idea who Alex Armani is, but it's easy for me to imagine he is some sort of benevolent genie whose only mission is to help people be the most they can be and get the most they can get out of life. And "most" is in the mind of the beholder -- the limit is infinity. I highly recommend this CD. Not only is it filled with the most profound kind of spiritual guidance, I believe it is very effective in programming the subconscious mind to attract wealth. We live in a mysterious universe. Far more mysterious than most of us ever stop to realize. I don't know, nor will I ever know, exactly how it all works. But this CD has helped, and is continuing to help me come a long way. And what's most interesting, after many weeks of dedicated, daily listening, the most remarkably fortunate events are beginning to happen in my life. I plan to keep listening daily for a long time to come.

One Up On Wall Street : How To Use What You Already Know To Make Money In The Market One Up On Wall Street : How To Use What You Already Know To Make Money In The Market

Reviews

This is for sure the only stock market guide you'll ever need. Everything about this book is great! from the order of how everything was said, to the comedy in his words, and just the way he explained everything. It was very well done! This book goes in my top 3 best stock investing books. (The others are "The Intelligent Investor" by Benjamin Graham, and "Common stocks and Uncommon profits" by Phillip Fischer) Wishing you much success in your investments!!

This book was recommended to me by a friend as an introduction to fundamental analysis. I found it to be a fun read (Peter has a good sense of humor) and also very informational. The principles explained in the book are all very useful to anyone looking to invest or trade. I strongly recommend it.

This is a short book, but long on advice even, and especially, after the financial meltdown. It took me about 40 - 45 minutes to go through the book, but I'll read it again tomorrow and maybe again next week allowing the content to set in. The book is a fun read and gives novices, such as myself, some basic fundamentals and concepts before we rush in (again) to lose our money (again) while the big boys rake all the profits (again) in the casino we all know as the stock market. There is no specific advice in this book other than to spend as much time researching a stock as you would buying a new refrigerator; however I found the general concepts interesting and informative. But reader beware, even though the book is short Lynch does get the point across that choosing your own stocks is and making money is a combination of perspiration and luck. I've made the mistake of rushing in to buy a certain stock that was "hot", sometimes it worked out but mostly I lost money.

Okay, so you want to get started in the stock market, don't you? Maybe you need to remember that it is possible to still "value a business" and not just feel like after twenty years of good honest, intense "trials and tribulations" we are still getting screwed? Remember Lunch but don't jump in the game now if you don't know why I'm grounding myself in writing and reading and a wonderful weekend somewhere in America. Anyhow, I hope to speak with Paul Coffey the next time I'm town. I've been formulating a really compelling way of viewing the Bill of Rights and would be interested in what he thinks.

This book offers general concepts more so than specific technique. If you are looking for a book about the creature called "fundamental analysis," you may find the last half of this book interesting. However, if you want specific, practical advice you will be disappointed in the vagueness of the author. The only detailed bullets occur in chapters 15 and 17--all of 20 pages long, and even there the bullets are really just key points about indicators (things to watch for). How to calculate, how to interpret the value of, and where to find the indicators is left to the reader. Even, with his several page long description of price-to-earnings ratio (pp165-173), he ultimately advises, "Once again, your broker may be your best source for p/e analysis." (p. 170) 20/20 hindsight seems to be his emphasis throughout. He offers many, many just imagine if... anecdotes--both supporting and refuting his advice. As a result, contractions invade throughout. For example, he calls "Whisper Stocks" a bad investment (pp 157-159). Okay. Then he regretted missing Cisco in 1990 when they were just a start-up. Why? Because looking back, he could have make $480 for every $1 invested (Intro). But wait, it was a "whisper stock" in 1990. He is against "diworsefication" (p 153), unless the stock price goes up afterwards (pp 154-157). Then he laments buying into an IPO with solid fundamentals and a smart business plan. Why? The expansion failed and he lost money (pp 180-182). Since most of the book is about finding young companies early (Street Lag, p 57) with solid fundamentals (ch 8-15) and taking a chance that they will grow maybe 10-fold (ch 6), his lament is lost on me. There are some saving graces to this book. The author does a decent job defending the importance of researching and understanding what a company does before investing. Frankly, there are better books out there about investing for beginners and experts alike. The financial advice industry has evolved over the past twenty years, and this million seller just doesn't stack up. I would recommend instead reading any Suzie Orman, Phil Town's "Rule #1," Bartiromo's "Use The News," or anything about Warren Buffet.

How to Make Money in Stocks: A Winning System in Good Times and Bad, Fourth Edition How to Make Money in Stocks: A Winning System in Good Times and Bad, Fourth Edition

Reviews

I accidentally published my post in the previous edition but the 4th edition (orange) is the one that I read. I found this book misleading and mostly unhelpful. I felt compelled to write a review that balances out the bogus 5 star reviews planted by the author or publisher. It's not all bad, but essentially, it comes down to: 1) Buy only newer innovating growth stocks where earnings have been increasing 50% each quarter (Well gee that is so easy to find) 2) Avoid solid blue-chip companies paying dividends. 3) Use chart formations to figure out when to buy. He provides examples of chart formations but does not provide any interpretation as to why they work. Also, looking at his example charts, the chart patterns he points out are not always clear cut and obvious. In fact, sometimes on the same chart there will be a similar formation and it makes me wonder, "Well why not buy over here instead? How are these two patterns fundamentally different?" 3) Sell all losers at 7% or 8% 4) Don't use limit orders. 5) Stay out of the market during bear markets. 6) Buy near the stock price high. He goes through lists of stocks that increased hundreds of percents, but so what? Hindsight can always produce stock charts like this. The first 100 pages are stock charts of various companies from the 20's-80s that doubled or tripled in a few years. Supposedly we are supposed to study these to see how chart formations produce winners. And how often do these chart formations show up? He provides no answers, but it appears to be infrequently, especially when he shows a chart spanning 5 years. Overall, his system seems to lead to stocks that are "Hot" at the time. Stocks that tend to have big swings up and down such as Apple (which he mentions in several places in this book). Probably the only solid piece of advice is the stop loss, but these can be problematic at times, especially for volatile growth stocks that he recommends. Supposedly buying at the 'right time' with the right chart formation will virtually never hit your stop loss since almost always it runs up 20% from there, but it appears those lovely chart formations don't show up too often. Oneil doesn't provide proof (brokerage statements, or trade confirmations) that he has actually made money using his own "system." He loses credibility when he says to stay away from options because they are too risky. If used properly, options can be safer than buying the actual stock. This book is like 450 pages and it could be condensed to about 200 if he would cut out a lot of the fluff. He pushes the services of Investors Business Daily so much, I was thinking that I should have gotten the book for free for all the advertising I was exposed to.

This book does have some good info on when to buy stocks and when to get out. As others have noted hindsight is 20/20 so don't take all advice to heart. Charts are sometimes not explained properly and patterns don't really make sense... but overall I think he gives you decent advice like using cup'n handle + volume to buy -- though of course most of the time by the time 'heavy volume' hits the price is already maxed and not all of us can be day traders... the market is way too complex (or irrational) to be making buying decisions on simple rules. Nevertheless I still think O'neal's strategy works well in bull markets. For proof you can see the AAII website for well performing screens over the years. O'neal does advertise his newspaper & website. Personally I think it's a good website, especially if you're into stocks. The editorials as others have noted are totally biased but I don't really care about that. Sometimes they do get borderline racist. I complained once about an article and they took it off pretty quickly so I'm still subscribed.

I liked this book a lot. When I first started out reading books on investments, I didn't know where to start. I first red some books on Warren Buffett and then later on value investing. I didn't have a clue there was even something out there like growth investing. Then I ran in on this book and loved it immediatly. I did make the mistake of dropping everything I ever learned on value investing, and simply throwing away that knowledge. Later on, in the bull market of 2009 I had a watchlist full of value stocks and watched them rose in price, whithout doing anything about it. Anyway, back on this book. The author has done a great job in writing this one. Almost everything you will read in here is the opposite of most value investment strategies. His CANSLIM method is easy to use to select the stocks you want can buy. You don't just have to buy 'm and hold 'm, but rather use TA to select your entries and exits. Stops are always placed on a close % below the entry. Exits are also greatly described in his book. Please also consider the author his verified track record. It's amazing. This is one the very few books out there (I believe) has the potential to make you a millionaire, by applying it. His method is pretty straightforward and certainly not that complicated, but applying his rules is pretty hard to do. Something I've also noticed, after having done dozens of trades with his method, is that you absolutely have to use hard stops. A lot of these CANSLIM candidates have high beta's, and can easily fall with 30% to 50%. That's ok, beacause the upward potential is the same, but just wacht out while applying this method. If you're like me and you have the tension to ignore your stops, the losses can get pretty big. Also, buying stocks that rise in price with 15% or 20% and then holding them to sell them later with a loss is pretty devastating ..

If you plan to invest abroad the US, think twice before using this methodology. In some countries's markets, there is not such amount of information available. Also, IBD related newspaper is locally focus too.

This is truly amazing book. Very detailed, common sense, no garbage talk or affiliate junk. Method presented in the book is a mixture of fundamental and technical analysis, explained with a very clear language. You will never have to guess what the author means - it's all there in plain. This book should be recommended to everyone who trades stock market.

This book got me through my last two years of college. The Carribean Pork Tenderloin is AWESOME! Whenever I would be home on a break my mom and I would spend a day or two just prepping recipes from here for me to take back to school with me. It never failed that I would be running low on funds and food but I always had something delicious as a backup just waiting for me. The boys loved it too...there were a number of weekends that I went to my friend's house with something delicious and all of his roommates ended up deciding that I was their favorite person that night. There are so many great recipes in here that the only reason I have ever had to duplicate recipes is because it is one of my favorites!!

Wonderful book. All the recipies that I have tried so far are "excellent" My tip for you. I bought my 6lb. trays and made three different recipies from each one (we are only two) works perfectly. Wish that there were more fish dishes.Look forward to the next book from these talented girls.

Counting myself, I live in a household of two. We're both working adults, and it can be easy to fall into the habit of ordering pizza. I don't love cooking, but I don't like being broke from eating out, either. I've tried several "freezer cooking" cookbooks, and been disappointed by all the bland dishes they offer. This is by far the best I've picked up on this subject. Most of the recipes make 5-6 meals for two people, which is perfect. Not so many that you get sick of them, and not so few that it seems a waste of time. The recipes are very simple and take only a few minutes to put together. Oh, and did I mention tasty? This is the second time I've made the "Pepper Jelly Pork Chops." We cook them on the barbecue and they turn out perfectly.

Just about all you need to know in your quest to fix healthy, tasty meals ahead of time. Most recipes can be adapted to suit your individual tastes. Now there are no excuses for take-out when you're too tired to cook!

I bought this book when I got my new chest freezer. I was in my second trimester and wanted to fill my freezer with easy make-ahead meals knowing that once the baby got here I would have little to no time. I also bought another freezer cookbook but looking through it I was disheartened by the amount of canned soups and processed ingredients, plus the crazy once-a-month schedule just made cooking seem like drudgery. I was impressed that this book makes nearly everything from scratch. Also loved the print and cut instructions for the finished product, as well as the inventory sheet. FFF contains recipes for a variety of meats as well as vegetarian dishes, snacks, and desserts. Cooking methods include grilling, baking, slow cooker, stir fry to name a few. Although I knew I was taking a risk by making a lot of these meals before ever eating them, I only had one dud (Ginger Beef) As a few reviewers have mentioned, if you don't like sweet meat recipes you will probably not like many of the marinade recipes. Also, a must is some degree of patience when cooking. If you don't thaw the entrees completely and cook them too high, you will most definitely get dry, overcooked meat. Fifty meals later I am so glad I went with this cookbook - we've eaten through about 80% of our stash and I'm planning my next freezer cooking session!
