Self-Healing with Guided ImageryReviewsSure, a positive outlook is beneficial to help support good health. But lets not get carried away with hype. Andrew Weil is famous for his brand of hype. I was at first taken in by his personality, seemingly rational arguments, and great presentations. In time, as I found reality still in existence, Weil's hypnotic influence was just not sustainable. Save your money. Do not believe in modern day saviors. They all offer artificial techniques for dealing with the natural realities of life. It's like using fertalizers and toxic chemicals to manage your garden. Ultimately, this is harmful to the ecology, unhealthful, and is never sustainable. False teachings of any kind, are like this concept of gardening. Instead, believe in a higher power, and believe in yourself. Keep later day Messiahs' hands out of your pockets. I really liked the first CD (intro) which explains the mind body connection and how important meditation and guided imagery is. This is a good meditation and I listen to it on my Ipod while travelling or any other time that I feel stressed. I haven't opened the product yet. Seller/shipper did fine. Received product as promised. Follow the instructions and have these two cool gentleman guide you to healing and relaxation. Three guided imagery sessions included. I always feel better after doing one of the sessions. Also bought the "Self-healing with sound and music" by Kimba Arem that is recommended - it will take you away - to Asia, Austrailia and the deep blue sea (whale sounds). If more people listened to these cd's the world would be more relaxed and healthy! Try it you'll like it. I got this CD a while ago every single time I use it I feel better after I finish the excercise. It guides you to relax first and then to focuss on meditation and healing and it gives you four different excesices. It is a great start for anyone who wants to explore the mind and body connection and its good effect on health. I highly recomend it if you have a chronic illness. It is a great complement to any medical treatment. It even helps me fall asleep after a hectic day when I'm ussually wired and it is hard to fall sleep. Although, the main purpose to use this CD is to meditate and be "fully aware" while you do it, so when you use it for that purpose, it is better to sit on an easy pose or lotus pose and imagine your body heal. Also, Dr Rosman's voice is very soothing which I think it is a plus. Average Rating:![]() |

Healing Your Past LivesReviewsI finally got around to purchasing this Sounds True CD and Book in April after reading his book: Other Lives, Other Selves: A Jungian Psychotherapist Discovers Past Lives, 1989, twice few years ago; and purchasing a cassette version and 2 CD versions of: Roger J. Woolger Eternal Return (6 tapes or CD's), Sounds True, Boulder, Colorado, 1999 (one copy was to make MP3s for my computer, the other for my Professor.) Why did I wait? I dunno, but...you shouldn't! This is another one of those nice Sounds True metaphysical books with a CD. What these Sounds True books consist of is a condensed version of the work of the author;in this case, Roger Woolger, a past life therapist, who is not as well known as Brian Weiss. These condensed versions are excellent for those who want to learn about a metaphysical idea, without having to read too much at one time;as well as for those who already know a lot about the author's work, and just wish to review it, and listen to the CD. They make great gifts, too. The CD has past life regression techniques that are intended to help the listener go back to his or her childhood, and go back past that point to past lives. Dr. Woolger's instructions are very short and simple, compared to other past life CDs. There's no extended directions about getting into a state of relaxation. You just jump right in. I like that, because I tend to fall asleep while listening to long relaxation directions. Dr. Woolger simply tells you to relax and close your eyes. I've only listened to one track so far, and did quickly go back to childhood memories, but nothing past that point. Download the CD to your iPod, and you can easily listen to it whenever or wherever you want. And if you like Roger Woolger's CD, do read one of his unabridged books on past life regression. This is a great little book that has some very interesting stories of everyday people having past life issues in this present life. I enjoyed reading them. My favorite though is the companion meditation CD that comes with the book. It really works!!! It brought back some pastlives that i had no clue about lol. Just be cautious because not everything I was able to recall was all Roses. However I can say it did bring about healing that i needed in this lifetime.Enjoy and Good luck! This book contains great information about how past life traumas can cause physical ailments, emotional and mental issues, etc. in our current life. Past Life Regression can help people to uncover these issues from the past and allows people to let go of them so that they can heal. The results are improved health and the elimination of issues that mainstream medical methods, psychotherapy, etc. are usually not able to heal. Past Life Regression heals permanently at the root of the problem rather than putting a temporary bandaid fix on the issue. I would recommend this book for those who are interested in learning how our past has helped to shape our present and how we can effectively heal ourselves permanently. Dr. Woolger's work in Past Live understanding is very deep and you can tell he is VERY passionate about what he does. He has pioneered a method of accessing the deeper inner realms we all have and he shares it in this book and CD. His classes are expensive and few and far between, so this is an amazing opportunity for most of us to be able to access his methods. The chapters in the book are easy to work though and I like how he recommends you work through the accompanying cd as you go along. It makes it much more interactive. GREAT book for those new to delving into past life research and exploration or for the more seasoned veteran. I highly recommend this book and CD. Average Rating:![]() |

Could our memories of past-life experiences offer a key to unlocking the mysteries and questions we struggle with today? According to Dr. Roger Woolger, author of Other Lives, Other Selves, the answer is yes and anyone can learn to explore these extraordinary memories to retrieve valuable healing insights... |

Relax and De-stress: Rest, Re-balance, and Replenish With Classical Music for HealingReviewsThis album is so good for the stressful time that so many of us have. Play the album, start relaxing, then you are ready to do whatever you want to do. My husband and I purchased this in an attempt at relaxing and help with sleeping. THIS IS JUST CLASSICAL MUSIC using Andrew Weil's name. The entire write up states that sounds were put together in a certain way to promote healing. I believe it is just a money making scheme. Go out and purchase any classical music CD instead of wasting your money on this one. Generally, I do not find that classical music relaxes me as does Andrew Weil's "Breathing: The Master to Self-Healing". I find that excerpts of complete concerti etc. bothers me; I want to hear the whole piece. For others this cd works extremely well. This is a beautiful CD, so calming and relaxing. Just 'what the Dr. ordered'!! I will probably order more for my adult children.... you can't go wrong with this one! Wow, this artfully designed musical collection truly does what it says - the psychoacoustics technic really works! Carefully selected classical pieces and soft instrumentation make this an absolute delight to listen to. However, what I originally purchased this for was to have some relaxing ambient background music to play while I'm working - and this definitely does NOT work - it's too relaxing! The songs are specifically ordered to be gradually slower and softer, and I can't get through half the songs before I want to take a nap. So for daytime ambience, I don't recommend it. If you're looking for a late-night wind-down or a cure for insomnia, I could not recommend it more highly. You'll be ready for sweet dreams in snoozeville by track 11, no drugs required! Baby's First Impressions: Food Fun [VHS]ReviewsWe own 3 videos of this series, and we do like them. My two year old asks for it, and can name several of the items from memory. It's entertaining because it has children (live) that are eating, cooking, playing with the different foods. While we like HEAD to TOE video better (it does a better job of labeling items on screen) it definitely is a vocabulary builder. Average Rating:![]() |

Here's a great way to convince the 2- to 5-year olds that lots of kids do appreciate vegetables, fruit, and good manners! Well, perhaps that's not the noblest reason for nabbing this visual fiesta of food; perhaps the educational benefits should be a primary motivator... |

The Secret (Extended Edition)ReviewsThis DVD is very effective, fun and humorous too (loved the elephant scene). Though I've read and seen this material for a long time, I actually feel like I really "get it" after watching this. Highly recommended even for people who have been "studying" this material for some time. Time to put it in action! Excellent explanation of the Law of Attraction. What it is and how to produce effective results This is a great movie. Very motivational and inspirational. If you're in a rut and you need a push to get you out of it, I would advise you watch this. Exactly what the doctor ordered! :-) Wonder why things rarely work out for you? Everything you try seems to fail? Maybe you have been cursed with 'bad luck' because you never have enough money; relationships never last; businesses go to the wall? This dvd will enlighten you for sure. Every time you watch it you will feel happier about life and more confident about your future. And don't worry - it has nothing to do with religion, either. This is a 'must-see'. I would give it 6 stars if I could. Excellent. Shows the psychology of how the world works, rather than just the physics or economics Average Rating:![]() |

Not really a movie or documentary, The Secret is more of a video seminar, a presentation featuring a series of authors, philosophers, doctors, quantum physicists, entrepreneurs, and spiritual practitioners expounding on the powers of The Secret (probably the most well-known of the presenters is Jack Canfield, author of Chicken Soup for the Soul and The Success Principles)... |

The Sixth Sense [Blu-ray]ReviewsI liked this movie a lot, an excellent phsychological thriller. The ending is a complete surprise. For those who haven't seen this film, don't worry. This review has no plot spoilers. There's an old saw that everyone has one big novel or story in them. Unfortunately for M Night Shyamalan, "The Sixth Sense" was it. Its tremendous success encouraged him to make similar films, which have been increasingly dumb and dumber. "The Last Airbender" is about to be released, and unless it's an unusually good film, it will be renamed with the obvious vulgarity and quickly go to video. But "The Sixth Sense" is a classic. Bruce Willis is a child psychologist trying to help Haley Joel Osment, a disturbed pre-teen who finally reveals that he "sees dead people". Willis thinks Osment might be schizophrenic, and is about to give up the case, when he discovers that the child /might/ be telling the truth, and he finds a way to help the boy come to grips with the situation, regardless of whether he's sane or psychotic. In a following scene between Osment and his mother (Toni Collette), we learn whether he really does "see dead people". And then... Forget that the "The Sixth Sense" is a psychological thriller. It's worth seeing simply for Shyamalan's understated direction and Willis's and Osment's beautiful performances. The latter is one of the great child performances in movie history. I am bothered by a recent reviewer who says that he didn't find this film "entertaining". It appears we have reached a point anyone born after "Star Wars" cannot appreciate dramas. That's pathetic and disturbing. If nothing else, "The Sixth Sense" is entertaining in the literal meaning of the word -- it holds our attention from start to finish. The transfer is typical Disney -- richly colored, with extreme detail and sharpness. It's close to demo quality. "The Sixth Sense" is Bruce's 1999 blockbuster psychological thriller that became one of his most watched movies ever. This is not one of my favorites though. I'm not crazy about it because the movie is incredibly disturbing and almost tragic. Personally, I hate watching bad things happen to good people and there is no better man than the one and only Bruce Willis. It's almost like a story within a story within a story. But it moves very slowly and if you're like me the first time you watch it you'll need to go back and watch some parts again because it just didn't jive. As always Bruce was exceptional (the man has never given a less than excellent performance) in this movie, playing Dr. Malcolm Crowe, a child social worker. He conveyed so many different emotions and was completely believable. But overall, the movie wasn't entertaining or even educational or enlightening. Instead, as I have stated, it was very complicated. The movie does take a couple of twists and turns, most notably during the end. I didn't see what any of this had to do with the overall story though. What I thought the movie was trying to say is that death is very important and how we treat people after they pass away directly affects what happens in the present. Remember, go in peace. I know I'm not in sequence writing my reviews of writer/director M. Night Shyamalan's movies but I can only say that he does it again with Sixth Sense. When little Cole Sear reveals his secret by quietly saying, "I see dead people," gooseflesh ran up my arms and cold, wet feet danced along my spine. Child actor Haley Joel Osment is superb as the lonely, frightened little boy who has a gift: he attracts dead people who come to him for help. Bruce Willis is great as always as a failed psychiatrist who seeks to redeem himself by helping Osment. But he has a secret, too.... Highly recommended. The Winds of Hell If you like psychological thrillers and suspense this movie lives up to its billing. Shyamalan does a great job of setting up the tension using lighting on otherwise inanimate objects, like statues on buildings, as well as odd shots, like high above entrances, which at once create both a distance and tension. Bruce Willis plays a psychiatrist who is attempting to redeem himself by helping a young boy, Haley Joel Osment, who seems beyond help. Osment is very intelligent and holds a dark secret which Willis attempts to bring out. The story-line, cinematography, characters, and site locations all work together to the surprising climax and final revelation. This is a film that justly bolstered the directors and actors reputations. Average Rating:![]() |

"I see dead people," whispers little Cole Sear (Haley Joel Osment), scared to affirm what is to him now a daily occurrence. This peaked 9-year old, already hypersensitive to begin with, is now being haunted by seemingly malevolent spirits... |

Battlefield of the MindReviewsThis is the best book Joyce Meyer ever wrote in my opinion. I enjoyed it, it will be a keeper in my library. Bettie Rogers This dvd and the accompanying book are the best resource materials I've ever studied. I highly recommend both as a gift to family, friends, ministers, etc. I think that everyone should study this before they get married. Especially the book, as it has even more details. Joyce is a blessing! Some good ideas, but not so sure, big push for her products and conferences it seems. We used this DVD for a Wednesday evening ladies class at our church and have thoroughly enjoyed it!!! I first viewed this dvd on tv. Joyce is succinct, humorous, and has a passion for the Lord that holds viewers accountable in their walk with God. I highly recommend this dvd. It is inspirational and informational! Sleeping Through the Night, Revised Edition: How Infants, Toddlers, and Their Parents Can Get a Good Night's SleepReviewsThis book was a life saver for me when my three children were small. I am now buying it for my sister and her first baby. The book offers practical advice without judgement. If you can stick to it for 4 days you will revolutionize your sleep habits, even when you exclusively breast feed like I did. Have hope! My children have been good sleepers for years now, even with a family history of light sleeping. You will not go wrong with this book. We started with "The Baby Book" by Dr. Sears, then tried, "The No-Cry Sleep Solution" and then "The Secrets of the Baby Whisperer." We were really at our wits' end. The major issue wasn't actually that our baby wasn't sleeping through, but that she was having a really hard time napping and she was crying like crazy every bedtime. We were trying not to let her cry but she was totally inconsolable, screaming right in our arms! We would be driving her in desperation to get her to go to sleep and sometimes she would still scream. It was heartbreaking. Finally I got really desperate for a solution to my poor baby's anguish and looked online to see whether anyone in the sleep world was actually a PSYCHOLOGIST who specialized in sleep. Lo and behold, Jodi Mindell. She is truly an expert. Long story short, my baby now LOVES her crib. If we forget to put her down when it's time, she looks at us and says "Nigh night." She has no more negative associations with sleeping and she's a GREAT sleeper. 12-hour nights, plus usually 2 90-minute naps during the day at 13 months old. It took about 3 nights for bedtime to work (the longest she cried during that time was 20 minutes, which was already less than she cried when we'd tried to hold her or rock her to sleep!) and about 2 weeks or so for naptimes to get in gear. The three hallmarks of Mindell's method are: 1. Reliable scheduling. For about a month our naptimes and bedtimes (and waking times) were literally to-the-minute. It worked. It actually even worked for me. I'm pregnant and I was able to set my own internal clock to take an afternoon nap when my baby does! 2. Routine, routine, routine. Bedtime and naptimes in our house now have an exact routine that is the same every single day. Same items, same order. Same books! I think this was the key for our daughter. She really relies on her routines. 3. Going to sleep on their own. Now, this doesn't mean you can't go in the room, or that you can't comfort your child if they need you. But you can't help them sleep. No rocking, nursing, feeding, driving, patting, etc. We went in and checked every 5 minutes and if she was really scared and not just fighting sleep we would pick her up, calm her down and put her back. Now she grabs her binky, says "nigh nigh" and lays down! Mindell also offers an alternative where you get to this gradually. So you could stay in the room for a while and get farther away or whatever if you don't want to do any crying at all. I will also add that our baby, who we and everyone else thought was just a "fussy baby," turns out to be the happiest person in the world. We thought she had tummy problems, teething problems, all kinds of things. Well, now she's smiling, giggling and babbling 95% of the time. Sleep is a miracle cure! This book was recommended to us by the pediatric sleep specialist at Oregon Health Sciences University when we took our 2 year old who has never slept through the night after our overnight sleep study. I had done a lot of reading but had not purchased a book because there are so many out there that may or may not have any credibility. It is a straight forward book, that gives concrete examples and realistic expectations. There is nothing "gimmicky" or earth shattering about the information. Just science-based information. So if you're looking for the 2-night fix, this isn't it, because those only work on the child that fits that mold. It recognizes that not all children respond to "cry it out" (which is refreshing) and gives options. I bought and read other sleep training books and found this to be the most helpful by far. The others I read were: No Cry Sleep Solution, Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child, No Cry Nap Solution, Babywise, Jo Frost's Confident Baby Care, and Happiest Baby on the Block. I took bits and pieces from each book but this book was easy to read (using steps) and to the point. Get this book and put your doubts to rest. I bought this book 5 1/2 years ago when my first son was four months old. To this day, it comes to mind as the one most important resource I had. I was exhausted at the time, still breast feeding him every 2 hours around the clock. I had thought he would naturally start sleeping longer when he was ready. Wrong. In my zombie, mush mind state, I read the information about how much sleep a baby needs at what age and began getting him on a sleep schedule using the very specific, yet flexible, guidelines in the book. He was like a new child!, much more content. I began to be able to function and have time to do things like eat and go to the bathroom, and I didn't feel guilty about how I was raising him after reading the sleep information and seeing the changes in my son. It might sound obvious that I needed to do something, but it's hard to think straight when you're sleep deprived and hungry. I felt this book was a good middle ground between the two extreme philosophies of a completely child centered and a completely parent centered parenting approach to sleep. I still refer to sections in the book on occasion that deal with sleep issues in older children and adults. Wonderful, thank you Jodi Mindell. Average Rating:![]() |

Teaching Smarter With the Brain in Focus: Practical Ways to Apply the Latest Brain Research to Deepen Comprehension, Improve Memory, and Motivate Students to AchieveReviewsMy entire school staff is reading this book for ways to improve our interaction with our students. This offers a research based perspective on learning and teaching! There is only one word for "Teaching Smarter with the brain in Focus" ...Amazing! Her chapter on Lesson Design is worth the price of the book alone. Easy to read, well-illustrated and helpful to use, Scholastic has provided another winner. Dr. Sarah Armstrong uses many great real life examples from classrooms and schools; she has obviously "been there and done that" which makes her advice so much more relevant. She encourages thinking in the classroom and avoids "Telling the information". This is a very thought provoking topic in this age of "teach the test'. Sarah introduces active engagement/involvement through role-play, simulation, music, visual arts, etc and explains how these techniques can help the brain become better at learning. I especially liked the different memory systems. I have started to use several of them myself to help my long-term memories. I occasionally teach adult education classes and I will use Sarah's innovative book for future lessons! Sarah Armstrong has a real winner here for helping educators and teachers develop thinkers. Whether you are a first year teacher or a senior educator, "Teaching Smarter with the Brain in Focus" can help you in every aspect of teaching. It is a "Must Have" for discerning teachers! Sam Hendricks, author of "Fantasy Football Guidebook" Wow... Dr. Armstrong has provided educators with a guide to lesson planning and classroom instruction that can be used every day!! I have worked as a teacher, principal, curriculum & instructional leader, as well as educational consultant. Never have a seen such a great guide with clear direction to how to use the brain research to support student learning. Thanks, Sarah!! Would you like to teach the way you know works best but cannot defend your methodology as research based? Well here is your defense in one skinny little book. Yes, that music in the background of your classroom does have a scientifically researched significance to learning. Dancing on the playground to the rhythm of the times table is far more fun and makes learning easier, than sitting in straight, quiet rows trying to memorize 7x6 or 8x6. Dr. Armstrong makes the scientifically researched connection between how the brain learns and what we do in the classroom. She gives us the science behind the art of teaching that great teachers just seem to know. If I were the principal of your school, you would be reading this book with me this fall and we would probably be sitting in comfortable chairs with headphones on. This book by Sarah Armstrong was a quick and easy read filled with GREAT strategies and suggestions I can use to make my teaching more effecting and my students' learning more relevant. If you know anything about Bloom's Taxonomy, or have ever had an "unreachable" student in your classroom, this is the book for you! I liked the "real-life" stories shared throughout the book; you can tell the author has lived the life of a classroom teacher! I can't wait to get back to school so I can put these ideas into practice. I wish I had read this book when I was a first year teacher! Average Rating:![]() |

Creative Therapy for Children With Autism, ADD, and AspergerReviewsI started to write a long review of the many reasons I didn't like this book, but most people reading this are parents who, like me, have a special needs child and little free time. I'll make is short and simple. Ms. Tubbs does not appear to have any kind of formal education or training in the areas covered in this book. There is a disclaimer in the first pages that states the information in the book is based on her research, observations and experiences, but to consult a professional before using the methods in the book. The topics covered are BROAD and not in good way. This book is like reading someone's entire blog. No topic is covered in depth and much of it jumps around, makes questionable claims about everything from history to nutrition and offers little in terms of real, usable advice. Draw circles, paint, listen to music, read fairytales, love your kids, feed them healthy, natural, whole foods. Those are the usable pieces of this book and frankly, if you are a parent seeking out a book like this, you probably are already doing those things. To me, it seems clear that Ms. Tubbs thinks parents are stupid and she has the answers they don't know they need. The back cover claims that Ms. Tubbs has "...profoundly helped thousands of children, trained hundreds of parents and teachers and lectured to tens of thousands of educators and parents..." Really? Then how come I'd never heard of her until my librarian suggested I check out this newly donated book? This book left me upset and angered at the portrayal of parents, and feeling as though I wasted valuable time that could have been used gathering factual, helpful information for my child. If you are a special needs parent, you may have encountered someone like Ms. Tubbs. The teacher, therapist or even family member who knows much better than you what your child needs and thinks you are just as much a part of the problem as the hole in the ozone layer or mercury in vaccines. They know far better than you what your child needs and only through them will the child be helped. Gag. Honestly, I think people like that are scary, sad and shouldn't be allowed near kids! Don't get me wrong, my child has a team of therapists and teachers that I would lay my life down for in a second because I owe them that much! I do not think I have all the answers as a parent, but I also know I am not resentful of my child's progress because I fear she won't need me, as Ms. Tubb's states mothers often do. Look on, any book on creative kid's activities is more useful than this book. Check out GFCF diets, and save your time and money by skipping this one. I have skimmed through this book, reading chapters that I THINK pertain to our situation. We have twin boys with varying degress of autism. There a LOT of interesting and useful ideas in this book that we will be able to implement beyond what our current therapies offer (like on weekends and downtime, etc). The only reason I didn't give it 5 starts is that I haven't read every page and given it my full attention. This book does offer a great variety of ideas. Average Rating:![]() |
